Highlights of 2012 -- my last post for the year!

Here we are again... the last blog post of the year. I'm looking through months and months worth of posts as I type this. In my 2011 year-ender post, I had just begun my weight loss journey. If you've been reading my blog, you probably know that undoubtedly the major highlight of 2012 for me was shedding off over 20 lbs. That said, I've compiled several things which pretty much made this year a memorable one for me...

Animetric's old jeans
Highlight #1: Losing over 20 lbs!

Yes, those were my size 12 Old Navy jeans which I used in 2011. They fit just right when I bought them in the US. I have since given them away because they practically fall off while I'm walking after I lost weight. You can read about everything I did to lose weight HERE. Thank you Del Monte Fit 'n Right, Marie France Philippines, and Nestle Fitnesse!

Animetric 2011 and 2012
Suffice to say I have no plans of going back to the obese me. Every single day is a continuing battle against gaining weight. There is but one rule when it comes to maintenance: Don't take in more than you can burn.

Everland Resort in South Korea

I'm not the least bit into Koreanovelas and I don't know one Korean actor from the next (I only know Psy and he's not even an actor!)... but do I know Korean beauty products! I love Korean beauty products and so it was really such a thrill for me to set foot on the land of Laneige... hehe! From Myeongdong to Everland, it was a super fun trip with family and friends.

Wangfu Chinese Cafe at Il Terrazzo

Had a late lunch with a friend at the new Chinese restaurant in Il Terrazzo called Wangfu Chinese Cafe some weeks ago. I didn't quite know what to expect... was it going to be like one of those short order places like Le Ching? Perhaps a dimsum place like King Chef?

Wangfu Chinese Cafe at Il Terrazzo
Everything was bright, shiny, and new. :)

Orange Freeze at Wangfu Chinese Cafe
I ordered Orange Freeze (P98, pictured above) which is a cold and refreshing orange drink with popping boba. I really enjoyed it.

Hainanese Chicken at Wangfu Chinese Cafe
Upon the restaurant's recommendation we ordered Wang Fu Hainanese Chicken 1/4 (P198, pictured above). It turned out to be really, really good. The chicken is well-cooked and tender, served with the usual array of sauces -- sate, chili sauce, and ginger sauce. You can actually order a Hainanese Chicken Rice Set for P168.

Lancome Holiday Collection 2012

During the first week of December, Lancome Philippines unveiled its glittery holiday collection at the Lancome Boutique in Greenbelt 5.

Lancome Holiday Collection 2012
So metallic. So luxe. To glitter and to glow is the way to go.

Lancome Holiday Collection 2012
I got to try Lancome Vernis in Love nail polish in my choice of holiday color. There are three: Bubbly Gold, Flirty Red, and Ginger Swing. One bottle costs P950.

There were nail technicians from Nail Tropics to do our nails. I picked Bubbly Gold.

Unboxing the Glamourbox December Box!

After Glamourbox's uber-impressive first box released last November 2012, I've been telling practically everyone I know that if they must subscribe to just one box, make it Glamourbox.

Glamourbox December Box
That said, I was really itching to find out if Glamourbox was going to be able to sustain its momentum. The answer came some time last week, when I got the December box. Are you ready?

Glamourbox December Box
Whoa. Look at what I found inside my December box!

Glamourbox December Box
Wow! Skin Food Gold Caviar Toner and Emulsion... full-sized bottles of these cost P2,350 each and these samples are about 15ml each... so they're worth over P200 each. Can't wait to try! These contain visible pure gold specks and Russian caviar. So luxurious!

Mitsuyado Sei-Men The House of Tsukemen in Makati City

Before anything else, I'd like to apologize in advance for the sucky photos. I did not bring my camera at the time because I didn't know we were eating out so I had to use my cellphone to take pics. I don't feel like going back to Mitsuyado Sei-Men any time soon so I decided to make do with the material I have on hand.

Mitsuyado Sei-Men in Makati City
It began with an errand. My hubby and I went to S&R at The Fort to grab a few things. On the way back home, he said we should have lunch at that new ramen place on Jupiter Street. He had read about it on another blog and said it seemed interesting. It turned out to be Mitsuyado Sei-Men.

Mitsuyado Sei-Men in Makati City
The place was jam-packed. I wanted to leave because I was really really hungry and I didn't want to wait to be seated, but my hubby was determined to eat at Mitsuyado Sei-Men.

Mitsuyado Sei-Men in Makati City
Even the tables by the entrance were all taken, there were people standing around waiting to be seated.

Detox in a Bottle by Nadine Tengco

First of all I'd like to greet all of you a belated Merry Christmas! I couldn't get myself to blog or go online yesterday because I wanted a break, hehe! I've been eating and eating this December because of all the Christmas parties and gatherings, not to mention all the food gifts we've been getting. Before I knew it, I was already feeling heavy and bloated. Controlled as I am, my body could no longer keep up with all that I was taking in. Thus when I was asked to try Detox in a Bottle, I scheduled it for December 20 -- right smack in the middle of the holidays! I just wanted to detoxify so badly that I couldn't wait until January to do it.

Detox in a Bottle by Nadine Tengco
Detox in a Bottle is a cleansing program by US-certified nutritionist and weight loss specialist Nadine Tengco. Nadine is best known for her work as resident nutritionist in the TV show The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition.

Detox in a Bottle by Nadine Tengco
Detox in a Bottle comes in two formulas: Weight Loss and Cleanse. As you can see, I got the Weight Loss formula. Your daily cleansing kit includes 6 bottles of juice, 1 cleansing soup, and 1 digestive enzyme tablet. Organic herbs, spices, fruits, and vegetables are used for the juices and soups (ex: lemongrass, ginger, cilantro, parsley, wheatgrass, banana, papaya, cloves, turmeric, bell pepper, etc.). The cleansing formula is ideal for resetting the digestive system after unhealthy eating or drinking. The weight loss formula is especially developed for jumpstarting a weight loss program or breaking weight loss resistance. It contains twice the anti-inflammatory and detoxifying ingredients. I've sort of hit a plateau with my weight loss efforts so this is perfect for me.

Detox in a Bottle by Nadine Tengco
The cleansing kit is delivered the day before you start your cleanse. The schedule goes like this:
  • 8am - Bottle 1 "Energy Blast" Smoothie / 8oz distilled water / (optional) herbal tea or organic coffee
  • 10am - Bottle 2 "Chili Lemonade" + Ground Flax or C-lium
  • 12nn - Non-Dairy Soup / chewable papaya enzyme tablet / 8oz distilled water
  • 2pm - Bottle 3 "Kidney Cleanse" / 8oz distilled water
  • 4pm - Bottle 4 "Liver Detox" / (optional) herbal tea
  • 6pm - Bottle 5 "Gingerade" / 8oz distilled water
  • 8pm - Bottle 6 "Salad in a Bottle" / 8oz distilled water or herbal tea

The Mind Museum in Taguig City

We finally took the kids to The Mind Museum last Dec. 9, 2012. We figured it's been open for a while now so there shouldn't be too many people. It was a Sunday too so we thought there should be no ongoing school trips and such.

The Mind Museum in Taguig City
We got our tickets and proceeded to go to the hall after the entrance.

The Mind Museum in Taguig City
A girl robot named Aedi is there to give a brief introduction.

The Mind Museum in Taguig City
After Aedi's intro sequence, we were ushered into the middle of the ground floor where different exhibit halls intersected. A guide from The Mind Museum briefed us for a few minutes before leaving us to our own devices. You are given three hours to explore the museum and it's actually more than enough. You can choose to go at 9am, 12nn, or 3pm. There's a 6pm slot during weekends. It's strictly via schedule, you book your tickets online.

Gift Suggestion: Mustela Cleansing Milk for mommy and baby!

I was introduced to Mustela a year or so ago by my sister's friend. Upon further research I found out that it's a popular brand in Europe, known for its high quality products for both moms and babies. Everything in their line is paraben-free, pthalate-free, phenoxyethanol-free, BPA-free, alcohol-free, and essential oil-free. Whew! Translation: Mustela is great for sensitive skin and our overall health!

Mustela Cleansing Milk
Anyhow, since a lot of us these days are more conscious of what we use on our children and on ourselves, it's the perfect time for Mustela to make its mark here in the Philippines. I've reviewed a couple of Mustela products in the past but this is the first that both my kids and I can actually use simultaneously -- Mustela Cleansing Milk. It's supposed to be used on babies' face and body, but since the -ber months tend to dry out my skin, I decided to try it for myself too.

Mustela Cleansing Milk
First things first, you have to remove the safety seal before use.

Mustela Cleansing Milk
After that, it's an easy-to-open flip-top bottlecap.

Online shopping at AVA.ph + win an item on your wishlist!

I used to have all my Christmas shopping done by October to November in the past. These last couple of years though, I find myself scuttling back and forth at the very last minute. Maybe it's the horrendous traffic which gets worse every year... maybe I'm just too busy doing more things... but whichever the case, I'm really really happy that online shopping is now prevalent in the Philippines.

AVA.ph
That brings me to my latest online shopping destination, AVA.ph. Back when all these online stores were starting out, I remember registering for each and every one of them, including this one, haha! I never did get the chance to explore them since there were so many. Now that it's Christmas though, I find myself revisiting these shops for last-minute gifts and purchases. Traffic is so bad I just want to stay home for the rest of the month. What makes AVA.ph different from other stores is that it's a curated marketplace, meaning the brands have been pre-selected by AVA.ph's team with the goal of bringing online shoppers a collection of coveted and hard-to-find brands.

AVA.ph
Shopping at AVA.ph proved to be a double-edged sword. Being the shopaholic that I am I saw a lot of stuff I wanted for myself. Fortunately, a friend told me about AVA.ph's Wishlist.

AVA.ph
If you see anything you like at AVA.ph, just hover your mouse over it and a red "Add to Wishlist" button will appear. Now why would you want to do that? Well, this Christmas, AVA.ph is giving three (3) users an item from their Wishlist!

More food at Torch Restaurant!

We were invited to a night out at Torch Restaurant sometime last month. It actually wasn't my first time at Torch, more like my 5th or 6th already because my high school batchmates held our post-reunion party there and my hubby likes the place so we go there with friends from time to time.

Potato String Fries at Torch Restaurant
We were served Potato String Fries as soon as we sat down. Julienned potatoes that are fried to a crisp, they are even thinner and crispier than Pik-Nik (the popular shoestring potato snack).

Mango Daiquiri with Upside Down Beer at Torch Restaurant
I'm allergic to alcohol but I was really intrigued by Torch's signature drink Mango Daiquiri with Upside Down Beer so I ordered one. It was surprisingly good! What happens is, you pour out more beer as you go along... haha. My face was all hot and red with just a few sips and so I passed it on to my hubby... hahaha! XD

Snowflake Coco-Lychee Martini Slush at Torch Restaurant
Hubby ordered Snowflake Coco-Lychee Martini Slush which was the other recommended drink that night. I dislike lychee but this was great too! Torch concocts some of the most delicious cocktails I swear.

Gift Suggestion: Hokkaido Cake from The French Baker!

I attended a very interesting product launch last December 8, 2012. Being the Japan-o-phile that I am, I was immediately excited when I got an invitation to witness the unveiling of the Hokkaido Cake from The French Baker and Anchor.

Hokkaido Cake from The French Baker and Anchor
While waiting for the event to start, we were given origami paper with matching instructions to pass the time.

Hokkaido Cake from The French Baker and Anchor
I couldn't help but notice the paper lanterns and Japanese-style parasols which adorned the ceiling of The French Baker at Robinsons Magnolia.

Hokkaido Cake from The French Baker and Anchor
What do you know, we were treated to a live baking demo of the Hokkaido Cake by Chef Pauline Lagdameo of Fonterra Brands Philippines (Anchor) and Johnlu Koa of The French Baker! They would be whipping up a batch of Hokkaido Cakes right before our eyes. The recipe for the cake is Anchor's and they chose to partner with The French Baker because The French Baker doesn't use shortcuts when it comes to baking. They use good old-fashioned wholesome ingredients like real butter, eggs, and cream. Did you know that there are powdered eggs, vegetable oil-based butter substitutes, and so forth which can all be used to bake? They are cheaper to boot. The French Baker doesn't believe in using substitutes for the real thing so they were chosen by Anchor to bring us the Hokkaido Cake.

Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm in Plumped Up Pink

I got Clinique Chubby Stick in Plumped Up Pink as a gift last October. I was excited to use it back then but I misplaced it somehow and when I did some cleaning in my bedroom a few weeks ago, I found it... haha! Yay!

Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm in Plumped Up Pink
When I first saw Clinique Chubby Stick, I found it cute. It looked like a fat crayon you'd give to young kids for coloring activities.

Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm in Plumped Up Pink
Fat crayon it is but with no need for sharpening or peeling off a paper wrapping like the crayolas we use for coloring. It literally is a chubby stick!

Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm in Plumped Up Pink
Since it is classified as a lip balm, I wasn't really expecting much color. But surprise, surprise! It actually has a significant amount of color. Check out the swatch on my hand. Color me impressed.

Win P5,000 daily from Meralco on Facebook!

Meralco and the Department of Tourism (DOT) are making Christmas brighter and more fun this year with the Meralco Maliwanag ang Pasko 2012 program.

Meralco Maliwanag Ang Pasko 2012
When you say Meralco, the first thing that comes to mind is electricity. Then I think about lights. Anyhow, Meralco and DOT have some major brightening up to do this year by energizing schools in Palawan, Bohol, Quezon, and Dinagat Islands to help bring the Christmas cheer to more children and communities around the country. More Liwanag Parks will also be created for our enjoyment. What's more, everyone has a chance to win P5,000 a day everyday until December 22 simply by supporting this program! You can get started by first liking Meralco on Facebook.

Meralco Maliwanag Ang Pasko 2012
From the Meralco Facebook Page you can click on the Maliwanag Ang Pasko icon or go to https://apps.facebook.com/maliwanagangpasko/ for the full contest mechanics. It's basically a photo contest wherein the winners will be determined by electronic raffle. You can either submit a photo of your house with an indoor or outdoor display decorated with Christmas lights or visit a Meralco Liwanag Park and submit a photo of an outdoor display with the Maliwanag ang Pasko parol (Christmas lantern). There are Meralco Liwanag Parks in LGU's and commercial spaces in different locations... from Bulacan to Laguna. You can check the complete listing here.

Meralco Maliwanag Ang Pasko 2012
Since we don't have lighted displays anywhere near or inside our house, we chose to visit the closest Meralco Liwanag Park... for us, it's the one located inside the Meralco Compound along Meralco Avenue at the Ortigas Center. Our kids were actually amazed at how brightly lit everything was.

Meralco Maliwanag Ang Pasko 2012
There's even a train that goes around a huge lighted Christmas tree which you can actually ride.

Win trips to Puerto Princesa, Cebu, Legazpi, and Iloilo from BPI!

Remember BPI's GetOutMore Campaign? BPI, in cooperation with the Department of Tourism, wants us Filipinos to get out more and see what our beautiful country has to offer. Three winners have already been given the chance to GetOutMore and experience Bohol, Boracay, and Davao. But wait -- there's more!

BPI Get Out More
Just pay your bills thru BPI 24/7 Banking on or before December 31 and you too can have an all-expense paid family vacation to Puerto Princesa, Cebu, Legazpi, or Iloilo. Personally, I love going out of town with my hubby and kids because it gives us some much needed bonding time away from it all.

Dambana ng Kagitingan on Mt. Samat, Bataan Last December, we took the kids to Mt. Samat in Bataan and went to see the Dambana ng Kagitingan (Shrine of Valor). I have lived in the Philippines all my life and the place is actually just driving distance from Manila but it was the first time I had gone there.

Dambana ng Kagitingan on Mt. Samat, BataanAll we did was take in the sights and the fresh mountain air but I thought it was one of the best days we had ever spent together as a family. We've never been to Puerto Princesa, Cebu, Legazpi, and Iloilo so yeah, it would be a real treat if we could win in the raffle! :D

Wouldn't you like to get out more and see the Philippines with people you care about? Electronic raffle entries are earned for payments made to bills amounting P50 and above. Log on to http://www.getoutmore.ph/ for the full promo mechanics. Don't delay, you only have until December 31 to get those entries in!

After Christmas, summer vacation will be just around the corner and what better way to spend it than to take an all-expense paid family trip to one of the Philippines' top tourist spots, don't you agree? :D

Crumpler Ludicrous Debacle -- a peek at what's to come in 2013!

I got my hands on a loaner unit of Crumpler's newest bag, Crumpler Ludicrous Debacle, for review a month or so ago. I remember thinking that it didn't look like a camera or gadget bag. This is in fact a preview of what Crumpler has in store next year since the bag has not yet reached Philippine shores.

Crumpler Ludicrous Debacle
It's a soft, cloth-type messenger bag actually.

Crumpler Ludicrous Debacle
It's got velcro strips to keep it closed.

Crumpler Ludicrous Debacle
It's actually pretty roomy so you can put a lot of stuff.
