Tokyo Tokyo Burger with Daniel Matsunaga!

I got a taste of Tokyo Tokyo's latest offering, Tokyo Tokyo Burger, last Feb. 16, 2012.

Tokyo Tokyo Burger with Daniel MatsunagaThe event started with a sushi-making event wherein a few volunteer bloggers rolled and sliced some American Maki with a bit of help from the Tokyo Tokyo staff.

Tokyo Tokyo BurgerWe each got American Maki set (P99 for 8 pcs.) on the table. It's filled with spam and cream cheese and coated with colorful crunchy um... crumbs? The sauce on the side is comprised of soy sauce and a dollop of mayo. Pretty good, I had a couple of pieces to taste and brought home the rest for my kids. :)

Tokyo Tokyo BurgerThen came the Tokyo Tokyo Burger! It comes in this nicely patterned cardboard box.

Watsons Compliance Pack for diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol!

Diabetes, Hypertension, and High Cholesterol are probably the three most popular chronic illnesses around. From my own circle of family and friends, there are definitely a number afflicted with at least one of those conditions.

Watsons Compliance PackAnyhow, last Feb. 8, 2012, I attended a relaunch of the Watsons Compliance Pack in cooperation with Unilab, one of the Philippines' top pharmaceutical companies. Basically, Watsons and Unilab makes it easier for people afflicted with diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol to manage their condition.

Watsons Compliance PackIt's possible because meds that help control blood sugar, cholesterol, and high blood pressure are now at least half the price of the leading brand. What's more, you can get an additional 15% off with Philhealth and/or additional 20% Senior Citizen Discount.

Watsons Compliance PackJust to state an actual example, my kids' yaya regularly takes Metformin 500mg to manage her blood sugar levels. If she avails of the Watsons Compliance Pack, she can buy 30 tablets for only P67.50. She takes this 3x a day and so a pack will last her 10 days, costing a very affordable P6.75 a day or P202.50 a month. You can get Amlodipine, Losartan, Metformin, Metoprolol, and Simvastatin via Watsons Compliance Packs.

Watsons Compliance Packs are available at all Watsons outlets nationwide. You will need to present your prescription at the counter.

Ramen X in Trinoma + win P500 GCs!

We were invited to try out the newly opened authentic Japanese noodle place in Trinoma called Ramen X last Feb. 22, 2012.

Ramen X TrinomaI was immediately wowed by the exterior. It looked like something out of an X-Men movie.

Ramen X Trinoma

Inside it's brightly lit and very modern in terms of design.

Ramen X TrinomaAnyhow, we had appetizers first, starting with Karaage (P49, pictured above). Pieces of crispy fried ginger-spiced chicken are served with a bit of sauce on the side. Pretty good, and that's coming from someone who doesn't really like chicken.

Shu Uemura Personal Make-Up Course

It seems I can never get enough of make-up lessons. Aside from finishing a course on professional make-up artistry at HD Studio, I've taken up personal make-up classes with Make Up For Ever, Bobbi Brown, and now Shu Uemura. Let's just say I want to learn different make-up application techniques.

Shu Uemura Personal Make-Up CourseSo when I saw a deal for a 3-Day Personal Make-Up Course at Shu Uemura over at my favorite deal site Deal Grocer last year, I bought a voucher right away. I opted to have my classes January 2012 since I didn't want to traverse to and fro through the hellish holiday traffic.

Shu Uemura Personal Make-Up CourseI was slated for MWF 5pm to 8pm from January 15-22, 2012. My teacher for the whole duration was certified Shu Uemura make-up artist John Pagaduan. I was quite impressed with his work when I attended the Shu Uemura x Wong Kar Wai Holiday Collection 2011 launch so I was pretty excited.

Taza Mix at Madison Square Ortigas

We were invited to dine at Taza Mix last Feb. 13, 2012. In case you're wondering, Taza Mix is both a shabu-shabu and grill place so you get to cook and eat food the way you want it.

Taza Mix Madison SquareWe were greeted with tables equipped with both grill and electric plate. Usually it's either or, but at Taza Mix you can have the best of both worlds.

Taza Mix Madison SquareWithout much ado we started simmering the broth which already had some veggies and big pieces of taro.

Taza Mix Madison SquareYou can customize your dipping sauce with the variety of spices and garnishings available.

Brainwavz M2 earphones!

I was loaned a pair of Brainwavz M2 earphones for review some weeks ago. I was rather impressed by the sleek-looking and minimalistic packaging.

Brainwavz M2 earphonesThis is the third earphone brand I'm test driving to date. Well, I really like the sound quality of the earphones that come with Apple iPod units but I've never reviewed an iPod.

Brainwavz M2 earphones

Unboxing it is pretty straightforward.

Brainwavz M2 earphonesA sturdy circular zip-up case houses the earphones and all the accessories that come with it.

Brainwavz M2 earphones

Everything fits neatly inside the small case.

Nivea Sun x Charina Sarte 2012 Summer Collection!

Nivea Sun is kicking off summer 2012 with a bang -- putting together smooth, glowing skin and sensational swimwear with the Philippine's premiere summer destinations serving as the backdrop.

Nivea Sun x Charina SarteI can personally vouch for the effectiveness of Nivea Sun products. My kids use Nivea Kids Swim and Play SPF 50+ when they swim or engage in outdoor activities and it has never failed to protect their skin. :)

Nivea Sun Party

Anyways, it was a night of fun with friends.

Charina Sarte Summer Collection 2012The party was highlighted by a fashion show featuring designer Charina Sarte's Summer 2012 Swimwear Collection. Talk about being glam under the sun... well, provided you have the body for it. I certainly don't hahaha. XD

Chick-In Chicken Inasal

We were invited to have lunch at Chick-In Chicken Inasal along Timog Avenue last Feb. 7, 2012. I'm not a fan of chicken in any form so I rarely go to inasal places... and if I do, I'd order something else like pork barbecue or liempo.

Chick-in Chicken InasalI was impressed at how spic and span the place is. There's a parking lot at the back of the building too so parking is definitely not a problem.

Chick-In Chicken InasalWe each ordered a chicken inasal meal, and I opted for Chicken Petcho (P99, pictured above). I've always preferred chicken breast and I don't care for chicken skin so this was perfect for me. If you don't like Chicken Petcho, you can have Chicken Paa, Pork Liempo, Pork Sisig, Boneless Bangus, or Pork Barbecue... all for the same P99. All meals come with a bowl of free house soup and unlimited rice.

Chick-In Chicken InasalWe had a side order of Grilled Liempo (P89, pictured above). I love the smokey savory taste of toasted liempo and this was no exception! :D

Boggle Flash fun for the family!

I got Boggle Flash from Play Matters late last year, but it's only now that I'm finally getting to review it. I love word games so I was pretty certain that I'd have a lot of fun with Boggle Flash.

Boggle FlashI played a lot of board games when I was a little girl -- Monopoly, Risk, The Game of Life, Cluedo, Mastermind... you name it, I've probably played it.

BoggleBoggle was one of the games I played... the old Boggle that is. The one with the letter dice that you shake around to form words while the sand timer is running.

Boggle FlashAnyhow, Boggle Flash is the state-of-the-art version of that classic word game. It even comes with lithium batteries so it's ready to play right out of the box.

Taking the Marie France Pro-Plus 100-Day Challenge!

I was at my heaviest ever in the year 2011. My sedentary lifestyle of zero exercise, food events, and spending a huge portion of time in front of the computer had finally caught up with me big time. Everywhere I went friends, relatives, and acquaintances would tell me how fat I had grown. Some would even ask if I was on the family way. It was a really depressing time and had I possessed low self-esteem I probably would have just locked myself up at home where no one would see me.

Marie France Pro-Plus 100 Day ChallengeI took a fitness challenge in November 2011 which entailed working out at a gym for a month and drinking a fat-burning beverage. I lost around 5-6% body fat and I was starting to fit into clothes that had gotten too snug. But it wasn't enough. I was still not at my ideal body weight range.

Last month, I was invited by Marie France Philippines to undertake their 100-Day Challenge for the Pro-Plus Program. In simple terms, Marie France promises that you will lose at least 10% of your body weight or they'll give you your money back.

Marie France 100 Day ChallengeI went in for a consultation with Marie France's doctor. I was measured and weighed. It was determined that I would fall within my ideal weight range if I lost 10% of my current body weight. My weight loss program would consist of two types of treatments: Physique Inch-Loss and FMS (Fat Mobilization System). Then I would need to limit my calorie intake to 1,500 calories a day.

Physique Inch-Loss at Marie France PhilippinesCome treatment time, you are ushered into a room with a recliner, cabinet with mirror, and a machine if your session calls for it. This is the Physique Inch-Loss machine.

Seattle's Best Milk Tea till March 31, 2012!

With the milk tea craze taking over Metro Manila, it was inevitable that some of the popular coffee places would eventually adapt. I got to try Seattle's Best Milk Tea at their branch in Greenhills Town Center about a week ago.

Seattle's Best Milk TeaIt's available cold with chewy red pearls for P110 (medium) and P120 (large). Extra pearls cost P10. The milk tea tastes like tea and caramel. Unlike the Taiwanese milk teas, you can't control the sweetness level. Being accustomed to 0% to 30% sugar in my milk tea, I found it sweet.

Seattle's Best Milk TeaYou can have it hot without the pearls too (P100, medium / P110, large). The problem I have with this version is that it's waaaay too sweet, probably due to the absence of ice. You can try Seattle's Best Milk Tea until March 31, 2012... but they might keep it permanently if there's a great demand for it.

Tuna Salad at Seattle's BestWe ordered Tuna Salad (P170, pictured above). We were shocked at how big a serving was! Fresh vegetables are topped with tuna, sliced hard-boiled egg, olives, croutons, and parmesan cheese. It also comes with potato chips on the side.

19th Travel Tour Expo 2012 at SMX (Day 1)

Last year, hubby and I attended the Travel Tour Expo 2011. We were able to book roundtrip tickets to Los Angeles via Continental Airlines for US$860 all-in. We could choose any date we wanted to so we got tickets for travel during the height of summer vacation, when plane tickets normally cost a lot more. Continental has merged with United Airlines since then so now all flights are branded as United and handled by United. Since we were so happy and satisfied with our experience, we decided to pay the 19th Travel Tour Expo 2012 a visit today, which is day 1.

Hubby and I were at the SM Mall of Asia a little before 10am. There was already a looooong line of cars queued up for the SMX parking area and so we opted to park at the mall. Instead of lining up with the rest of the crowd outside SMX, we proceeded to the bridgeway on the second floor where the line was much shorter.

The doors to the exhibit opened by 10am. We had to buy entrance tickets for P50 each. There were already a lot of people during that first hour.

We walked around and checked the various booths. As usual, the Philippine Airlines (PAL) booth was totally swamped. They have standees which promise big discounts but I find them to be very misleading. We asked them what the cheapest special expo rate was for roundtrip tickets to Los Angeles was and it was US$925 valid for travel from Sept. 1-15, 2012 only. Otherwise, everything is over US$1000+. Ooookay. No idea why there are always long and criss-crossing lines for the PAL booth during every travel expo. This was the case last year too.

Singapore Airlines is offering Manila-Singapore-Manila tickets for US$199 all-in if you book at the expo. You can use them for travel until June 2012.

Anyhow, we checked out the United booth trying to see if there are any good deals for Guam. The good news is, you can go on a 3D/2N trip to Guam (inclusive of airfare via United Airlines + accommodations) from May 7-31, 2012 starting at US$350+ depending on which participating hotel you choose. The most expensive option costs US$500+ all-in. We wanted a Guam trip for Christmas though since we're already booked for Korea this summer.

I overheard some people asking the Guam tourism folks if it's easier to secure a US visa if you're just going to Guam. They said something vague like yeah it shouldn't be too hard. Let me just say that IT'S THE SAME. Guam can be used as a port of entry to the US so there's NOTHING different about the entire US visa application procedure or the chances for approval.

Since there were so many people and we weren't really that gung-ho about booking something, we decided to leave after making a round. What we noticed:

  • Deals are mostly for travel during the upcoming summer months or lean months like September. We were trying to advance book something for Christmas vacation but no one was offering anything for the last quarter of the 2012.
  • There are also deals for local trips but we didn't bother checking them out since we like vacationing in places with a cooler climate compared to the Philippines.
  • There's a line at almost every major airline booth. I was actually #15 when I arrived at the United Airlines booth and they were serving #6 when I got my number.
  • Special expo rates can be availed of by booking right then and there. Bring your credit card just to be sure.
The 19th Travel Tour Expo 2012 is ongoing from Feb. 17-19, 2012 at the SMX Convention Center. Doors open by 10am and close by 8pm.

Switching to the Skycable P499 Blockbuster Package + a Twitter contest!

Our family has been subscribed to Skycable for as long as I can remember. We're on the Skycable Silver Package which costs P870 a month. I pay on an annual basis so I get one month free. A couple of months from now our Skycable subscription will be due for payment again and I was thinking of getting the Skycable P499 Blockbuster Package instead of continuing with Skycable Silver.

Skycable P499 Blockbuster PackageThe Skycable P499 Blockbuster Package includes over 50 channels as listed in the chart above. Our kids pretty much just watch Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, and Disney Channel for most part while I'm always on National Geographic whenever I turn on the TV. Hubby pretty much just cares for HBO and Star Movies so pretty much everything we ever watch is already included in the Skycable P499 Blockbuster Package line-up. If we avail of this package, we would save P371 pesos a month. What's more, as a Skycable subscriber, you can enroll your kids in the Skycable Fun Club. They have exclusive events, giveaways, and treats for members. My own children have been enjoying these perks for years.

Skycable P499 Blockbuster PackageWe're not the type of people who like going to the movie theater so we're pretty content to watch in the comfort of our own home. :)

Here's something more! Skycable actually has a Twitter promo ongoing right now. Just watch the Skycable "date" TVC I posted above and...

  1. Follow @skyserves on Twitter.
  2. Answer the daily question regarding the Skycable "date" TVC tweeted at 12pm from Monday to Friday. Promo will run until Feb. 24, 2012.
  3. Tweet your answer to @skyserves including #Sky499. Send a DM with your name, contact number, home, and email address.
  4. You can tweet your answer from 12pm to 12mn.
  5. Two (2) random winners will be drawn daily from all the correct tweets.
  6. Winners will get a special date treat delivered to their doorstep!
  7. Skycable will be calling the lucky winners.
Good luck! I'll try to join as well, I'm curious as to what that date treat is... hahaha!

J.Pops Baby Donuts from J.Co Donuts and Coffee!

This March 15, premiere Indonesian cafe chain J.Co Donuts and Coffee will finally open its doors in Manila at The Strip in SM Megamall.

J.Pops Baby Donuts from J.Co Donuts and Coffee

One of its unique offerings will be J.Pops Baby Donuts.

J.Pops Baby Donuts from J.Co Donuts and Coffee I got an advanced sample of J.Pops Baby Donuts about a week or so ago. I love the cute packaging! <3

J.Pops Baby Donuts from J.Co Donuts and CoffeeThey're basically donut "holes" that recreate the full-size J.Co donuts experience in bite-sized serving. It's a great way to taste everything without overdoing it since you can pretty much down a piece in 1-2 bites. The difference is, each one is filled! The baby Al Capone donut (my favorite white belgian chocolate + almond delight) is filled with cream whereas the full-sized one has no filling.

Physiogel Cleanser for my now dry skin...!

I can't say it enough but ever since 2012 started I've been plagued by dry skin. I don't know if it's because of the cooler, less humid Jan-Feb climate or if it's because I'm getting old, but what I do know is I don't have the skin care products to address this problem. I've had oily skin all my life so I have all forms of oil control. But heavy duty moisturizing products? Zilch.

Physiogel Hypoallergenic LaunchI was only too thrilled when I got invited to attend Physiogel's launch. I'm familiar with the product because I use Physiogel cleanser alternately with Cetaphil cleanser to well... cleanse my children's faces. I want something that won't irritate their young skin and both cleansers are hypoallergenic, fragrance-free, and highly recommended by pediatricians. At the back of my mind I knew that Physiogel also makes really good moisturizing products -- I just hadn't had the need for them until now.

Skin Moisture Test at Physiogel EventI took the Skin Moisture Test while waiting for the event to start. The Physiogel lady took my hand and used a device that measures your skin moisture level.

Skin Moisture Levels I got a 32.0 reading which is considered Mid-Normal. The levels are as follows:

  • 45.1 and up - Very High
  • 39.1 - 45.0 - High Normal
  • 27.1 - 39.0 - Mid Normal
  • 22.1 - 27.0 - Low Normal
  • 12.1 - 22.0 - Low
  • Below 12.1 - Very Low
A Mid-Normal reading is okay provided I can keep it that way. I was advised to use moisturizer to raise my levels so I can have smoother and younger looking skin.
