Ramen Bar at Robinsons Magnolia

We were invited to try Ramen Bar's new offerings at their Robinsons Magnolia branch last Oct. 8, 2012. It's been a while since I last dined at Ramen Bar so I was looking forward to seeing additions to their menu.

I love the brightly lit and stylized interiors. I actually forgot to take a photo of the restaurant itself so I just grabbed the above photo from Ramen Bar's Facebook Page.

Calpis Water at Ramen Bar
I ordered Calpis Water (P80, pictured above) which is something I usually have when I'm in Japan. Calpis is kind of like Yakult, and Calpis Water is something like Yakult-flavored water. The problem with what Ramen Bar serves is it's watered down. It tastes like Calpis Water drowned in water so it's bland and annoying. Let's just say I would be pissed off had I been asked to pay for something like this. If I'm being charged nearly a hundred bucks (a 500ml bottle costs around P60-70 in Japan) for a glass I sure as hell don't want it diluted. But it was complimentary since we were invited so I just charged it to experience.

Shoyu 2.0 Ramen at Ramen Bar
I was feeling under the weather that night. I had a headache and a stuffy nose. I decided to order Shoyu 2.0 Ramen (P280, pictured above) from Ramen Bar's seasonal menu. It was served piping hot, just the way I like my ramen especially when I'm not feeling so good. I found it to be very flavorful and I enjoyed it, albeit hubby said he was surprised I could finish the soup because it was too tasty for him. Anyhow the noodles were perfectly al dente -- chewy and firm, while the pork pieces were soft and tender.

Cheese Gyoza at Ramen Bar
We also tried Cheese Gyoza (P180 for 5 pieces, pictured above). It's just like the usual pork gyoza since it's still filled with ground pork and leeks. The difference is this one also has cheese. When you bite into the crispy fried exterior, the ground meat and melted cheese combine to give you a more unique flavor experience.

Ebi Buns at Ramen Bar
Ebi Buns (P220, pictured above) were also new to me. Steamed mantou (white bread) are filled with shrimp patties, lettuce, and a bit of wasabi (horseradish) mayonnaise. I was already full from the ramen so all I could manage was a bite to taste.

Super Chasyu Ramen at Ramen Bar
Since hubby didn't really fancy my Shoyu 2.0 Ramen, he opted for Super Chasyu Ramen (P380, pictured above) instead. Soy-based pork broth and noodles are topped with lots of chasyu (pork) slices and eggs.

All in all I had a pretty good ramen experience, albeit next time I would probably go for my favorite Sapporo Miso Ramen. Serving sizes for ramen are actually quite big and I was actually unable to finish the noodles in my order. I recommend sharing the noodles and the other menu items when dining at Ramen Bar so you can get a taste of everything.
