Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited Supreme Matte Lipstick

I'm not very fond of matte lipsticks in general because I find them drying and hard to use. My lips tend to get chapped and this is highlighted when I use a matte lipstick. So when Shu Uemura Philippines told us about their new additions to the Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited lipstick line which they fondly referred to as ultimate matte, I was very intrigued. Shu Uemura has the best make-up products so I was certain this was going to be different from my previous experiences with matte lipstick.

So I went to the Shu Uemura boutique at Power Plant Mall. There were six matte shades to choose from which I promptly narrowed down to three -- a nude beige and two kinds of pink.

I swatched all three shades on my hand.

Correction, I swatched four shades, including this matte brown lipstick at the top of my hand above.

While the swatches gave me a very good idea with regards to the lipsticks' excellent color payoff, there was no way to tell how they're going to look on my lips if I didn't actually swipe them on. So I did. First shade up was the nude beige shade, M BG 931. I was attracted to it immediately because I already have a lot of pink lipsticks but no real nude beige.

Then I tried out one of the pinks.

Last I tested was what I referred to as the Nicki Minaj pink.

Guess what color I got in the end? Yup, I opted for Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited Supreme Matte Lipstick in M BG 931 -- the nude beige I was attracted to. Comparing the photos I took with me wearing different lipsticks, I thought it made my teeth look whiter while the pinks gave them a yellowish cast. Also, since I didn't really own any nude or beige lipsticks, it was perfect.

What I like about Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited Supreme Matte Lipstick:

• It glides on oh-so-smoothly. Wow. I never thought a matte lipstick could go on this easily! As a result, it's easy to apply because it's not sticky and it doesn't tug at your lips.

• The color payoff is excellent. You get the color on the tube and nothing less. It just covers your lips completely in rich color.

• The price is at par with the international price -- a tube costs P1,195 here and US$30 in the US. I love it when a brand has uniform pricing because it saves me the trouble of buying from abroad haha!

• It stays put and lasts, just let it dry after you apply.

Suffice to say this is the BEST matte lipstick I've ever used and it has become a permanent addition to my ever growing make-up collection. Downside? None! It's well worth the investment because it looks good and it feels good. :D
