Komrad is a Chinese restaurant that's has a predominantly red color scheme and portraits of communist leader Mao Tse Tung.
Without much ado we started ordering for lunch. The first dish on our table was Rock Lobster (P595, pictured above). There were about four halves cooked with lots of garlic and bell peppers. It's quite flavorful but I felt there was too little meat considering the price of the dish.
My favorite dish among all that were served was the Sichuan Garlic Blackbean Ribs (P265, pictured above). Pork ribs are fried to a crisp with lots of garlic and slightly sweet-salty blackbeans. It's so yummy! I think it's a unique take on the regular salt and pepper spareribs almost every other Chinese restaurant offers. You must try this if you happen to find yourself at Komrad. :D
We were given a bowl of water with lemon and a towel to cleanse our hands with since we ordered crab.
Then the Typhoon Shelter Crab was brought out. Crabs cost P120 per 100 grams. A tall dish consisting of crabs and a huge pile of minced garlic fried to a crisp greeted us. I like how the juicy crab meat mixes with the crunchy garlic. Delicious!
Since we wanted a balanced meal, we ordered Sauteed Kangkong with Squid (P198, pictured above) as well. It was pretty good.
Lastly, we ordered Braised Pork Belly with Preserved Vegetables (P288, pictured above). It was not at all what I expected. Komrad's version is just way too sweet and fatty. More lean meat and a thinner sauce that is more savory than sweet would work better. The vegetables aren't preserved too.
Komrad takes your usual Chinese short order dishes and adds a twist that makes each one more unique. Worth a try if you're bored with the usual fare as they have a pretty sizable menu with a lot more to offer. Service was quite slow considering the restaurant wasn't even full when we went. Hopefully, this can be improved.
