Moshi Moshi at Regis Center, Katipunan Ave.

We were invited to check out Moshi Moshi in Katipunan last May 15, 2012. It's located right across Miriam College so it's also near Ateneo. It's amazing how this area has given birth to a multitude of foodie havens. When I was still studying in Ateneo, you could count the restaurants outside with your fingers. I remember McDonald's, the now defunct Carl's Jr., Tia Maria's, Shakey's, Sweet Inspirations, and Kamirori.

Moshi Moshi in Katipunan
Anyhow, I immediately liked Moshi Moshi's brightly lit interiors.

Takoyaki at Moshi Moshi in Katipunan
Without further ado we were served Takoyaki (P40 for 4 pieces, pictured above). Takoyaki are pancake-like balls filled with octopus and vegetable bits. They're drizzled with takoyaki sauce and Japanese mayo then topped with tasty bonito flakes. I was shocked at how affordable Moshi Moshi's Takoyaki are especially considering that they're pretty good. When I go to Little Tokyo in Makati I usually have to pay around P100 or P120 for 6 pieces. These are P10 a piece, even less if you order more than 4 pieces as 6 pieces cost P55 and 10 pieces cost P90.

Green Tea Shake at Moshi Moshi in Katipunan
My kids and I decided to try their Green Tea Shake (P105, pictured above). It's made with Japanese matcha (finely milled powder green tea) and milk. It also has chewy jelly bits. The drink is pretty good, even my kids who normally dislike milk tea loved Moshi Moshi's Green Tea Shake.

Jumbo Healthy Mixed Salad at Moshi Moshi in Katipunan
Then we were served Jumbo Healthy Mixed Salad (P255, pictured above). Lettuce, sweet corn kernels, shredded kani (crabstick), wakame (seaweed), julienned carrots and cucumber, and potato salad. It comes with 4 kinds of dressing. One serving can be shared by around 4 people as an appetizer.

Shrimp Roll at Moshi Moshi in Katipunan
Shrimp Roll (P145 for 8 pieces, pictured above) is a new menu offering. It's kind of like California Roll (sushi filled with kani, mango, and cucumber) with the addition of tempura shrimp as part of the filling. Yummy!

Sesame Roll at Moshi Moshi in Katipunan
Another new menu offering is the Sesame Roll (P135 for 8 pieces, pictured above). Japanese rice is rolled with nori (dried seaweed), pickles, carrots, and tuna.

Kiddie Meal at Moshi Moshi in Katipunan
Moshi Moshi offers cute kiddie meals too! For P155, you get a choice of Chicken Karaage (pictured above), Chicken Teriyaki, or Beef Hamburg as the main dish accompanied by juice, corn, omurice (rice wrapped in omelet) and dessert (in this case soft-serve chocolate ice cream). My kids loved their meals, pointing out that the omurice was delicious.

Terimayodon at Moshi Moshi in Katipunan
Terimayodon (P130 for regular size, P190 to level up) is something new from Moshi Moshi too. Steamed rice is topped with teriyaki chicken pieces and then drizzled with Japanese mayonnaise. Very tasty and sinful, I only had a piece to try. I'm not really a fan of having too much mayo because it makes me feel queasy.

Matsu Bento Box at Moshi Moshi in Katipunan
We also tried Moshi Moshi's premium bento boxes for sharing. This is the Matsu (P280, pictured above). It consists of 3 pieces Takoyaki, crispy Chicken Karaage, tasty Gyu (beef), and potato salad.

Take Bento Box at Moshi Moshi in Katipunan
This is the Take (P280, pictured above). It 's made up of 2 pieces tempura shrimp, 3 pieces gyoza (fried pork dumplings), stir-fried vegetables, and corn.

Ume Bento Box at Moshi Moshi in Katipunan
This is the Ume (P280, pictured above). It's comprised of 3 pieces California Roll, Chicken Mayo, 60-spice Curry, Kani Salad, and Kimchi. All the premium bento boxes are pretty big, I think at least two people can share each and have a full meal along with two bowls of steamed rice.

Moshi Moshi Special Crepe at Moshi Moshi in Katipunan

For dessert, we had the Moshi Moshi Special Crepe (P145, pictured above). Chewy crepe is filled with ripe mangoes and whipped cream then topped with vanilla ice cream, cheesecake, and chocolate syrup. It's soooo good. I would've finished the whole plate if I weren't watching my weight.

Soft Serve Ice Cream at Moshi Moshi in Katipunan
There's also Soft Serve Ice Cream (P35, pictured above). Flavors change daily. That night we had chocolate and mango but there's also cookies & cream, vanilla, cheese, strawberry, and melon on a rotational basis. Light, creamy, and refreshing!

Reasonable prices, great taste and quality, pleasant interiors, plus a wide variety of dishes to choose from make Moshi Moshi a good choice if you're hankering for some Japanese food. There's free wifi too. Do check it out if you're in the area.

Update as of May 5, 2013:

Went back to Moshi Moshi today, a year after our first visit. It was horrid. Everything we wanted to order was out of stock. Our food took a really long time to materialize and there were only 3 tables of customers (not even half the restaurant's capacity) when we went. My salad (it was supposed to be my lunch) came more than an hour after I ordered it and there was no dressing so I had to wait some more. The dressings they originally introduced during our first visit were nowhere to be found, I was stuck with a lame mix of ketchup and mayo. When I asked for other dressings the server just gave me a blank stare and offered me mayonnaise. Our dessert crepe had rancid cream on it and stale cheesecake. That was probably one of the worst meals of my life. The air-conditioning was so bad it was actually hot inside the premises, even with the electric fan on. I super do not recommend this restaurant.
