Taza Mix at Madison Square Ortigas

We were invited to dine at Taza Mix last Feb. 13, 2012. In case you're wondering, Taza Mix is both a shabu-shabu and grill place so you get to cook and eat food the way you want it.

Taza Mix Madison SquareWe were greeted with tables equipped with both grill and electric plate. Usually it's either or, but at Taza Mix you can have the best of both worlds.

Taza Mix Madison SquareWithout much ado we started simmering the broth which already had some veggies and big pieces of taro.

Taza Mix Madison SquareYou can customize your dipping sauce with the variety of spices and garnishings available.

The sets of ingredients you see in my photos above is actually good for three people since there were three of us sharing one table. Taza Mix Madison SquareWe pretty much just tossed the stuff we wanted into the simmering broth. We enjoyed the natural-tasting soup, you can tell there's no MSG or artificial seasoning. I forgot to ask if we could adjust the set, say for example I'm allergic to lobster and prawns, could I replace those ingredients with something else?

Grill Set at Taza MixIf shabu-shabu isn't your thing, you can opt for the Grill Set which costs P440 per person (10% discount on weekdays) inclusive of:

  • Franks w/ Cheese

  • Enoki Mushroom w/ Bacon
  • Caramelized Sweet Potato
  • Fried Mantou w/ Dip
What I have in the photo above though is Beef Short Ribs (Salmon Belly on the plate behind it), I don't know why it's not included in the menu.

Taza Mix Madison SquareAnyhow, the Beef Short Ribs were grilled and we quite enjoyed them. :D

Taza Mix Madison SquareFor dessert, the owner prepared something special that's not yet in the menu: her very own version of French Toast, prepared and grilled on our tabletop.

Taza Mix Madison SquareIt was soooo good. We had the option to garnish it with coconut whipped cream and fresh fruits, which I did. I don't know what kind of bread she used and how she mixed the eggs and milk, but wow... that was one of the best I've ever had. The goal is to eventually have everything you can grill, even dessert.

We were actually also served to-die-for freshly grilled do-it-yourself burgers which are also not on the menu. I'll post about it if it ever makes it into their roster.

All in all it was a lovely dining experience, and I highly recommend this place if you have a hankering for fresh and natural food that you cook by yourself. :D
