Charm Pro Makeup Brush Set Review

I pride myself on having a very clean and smooth blending technique when it comes to make-up and I am often asked what brush set I use. (These days though it seems I do better make-up on other people compared to myself hahaha.)

Charm Pro Makeup Brush Set ReviewDuring the entire duration of my professional make-up artistry course in HD Studio, I used the Charm Pro Makeup Brush Set which I got from my friend and fellow blogger Sophie (did I mention she's an extremely talented make-up artist too?). I love the convenient and foldable leather case since it's just like toting around a purse.

Charm Pro Makeup Brush Set ReviewThe Charm Pro Makeup Brush Set comes with 21 brushes:

  • Dual Fiber Stippling Brush
  • Large Powder Brush
  • Small Powder /Blush Brush
  • Foundation Brush
  • Angled Contour Brush
  • Concealer Brush
  • Wet /Dry Eyeshadow Brush
  • Eye Shader Brush
  • Tapered Blending Brush
  • Angled Shading Brush
  • Pencil Point Brush
  • Precise Crease Blending Brush
  • Flat Liner Brush
  • Precise Concealer Brush
  • Angled Liner /Brow Brush
  • Bent Liner Brush
  • Eyebrow Defining Brush
  • Mini Fan Brush
  • Brow Spoolie /Lash Brush
  • Fan Brush
  • Lip Brush
To be honest, so far I've use around a dozen or so because I usually stick to my favorites when doing make-up.

Charm Pro Makeup Brush Set ReviewIt's my first time to own a Stippling Brush. You usually use this to even out the blending of foundation so there are no visible lines.

Beyond The Box launch at Resorts World!

I attended Beyond the Box's launch party at6 Resorts World last August 26, 2011. Prior to the launch they gave one lucky Animetric's World reader an iPod running kit. My hubby and I braved the horrid payday Friday long weekend traffic and finally arrived after two hours on the road.

Beyond the Box Resorts World launchThe launch was hosted by model / TV personality Janeena Chan and Philmug's Elbert Cuenca. I found the piled up boxes which adorned the stage very cute. :)

Beyond the Box Resorts World launchThere were live performances as well as free-flowing food and drinks for all the guests.

Beyond the Box Resorts World launchA lot of celebrities graced the event too! Tessa Prieto-Valdes was one of them. Would you believe there were over a hundred prizes raffled off? Lots of happy folks that night, myself included!

Finio Modern Pinoy Restaurant Review

I bought discounted vouchers from Groupon Philippines for Finio Modern Pinoy Restaurant a few months ago and was able to use it recently when hubby and I went out for lunch.

Finio Modern Pinoy Restaurant ReviewI've always wondered about Finio because I always see it whenever I pass by Tomas Morato.

Finio Modern Pinoy Restaurant ReviewI decided to order Bagnet Ensalada (P248, pictured above) as our appetizer. Lechon kawali pieces, organic lettuce, green mango slices, and tomato wedges are served with bagoong balayan on the side. The veggies are fresh and crisp but I thought the bagoong balayan was not a suitable dressing for the salad. It was very very salty while the mangoes were just too sour.

Finio Modern Pinoy Restaurant ReviewBoth my hubby and I picked Pork Barbecue (P148, pictured above) as our main course. We agreed that it was yummy. The pork barbecue is surprisingly lean, tasty, and very easy to eat. It's served with a cup of java rice and some peanut-based sauce similar to Aristocrat's / Alex III's.

Freshlook colored contact lenses for a first timer!

I had a lovely dinner at Kirin with blogger friends old and new plus the good folks over at CIBA Vision for Freshlook contact lenses.

I've been wearing glasses ever since my single days since I have a bit of nearsightedness and astigmatism, but would you believe that I have never owned a pair of contact lenses? I don't know the first thing about putting them on and my vision is not that bad (grade is 25/50, and I've kept it that way somehow for almost two decades). During times I need to wear make-up I just leave the glasses at home.

CIBA Vision Freshlook Contact LensesFrom left to right: Valerie, Mrs. M, Marj, Tricia, Franco, and myself. Missing Seph and Shai since they left early... hahaha, I felt like everyone's lola. My punchline is always "I have a 10-year old son." :p

CIBA Vision Freshlook Contact LensesSince I was the contact lens newbie among all the bloggers present, Dr. Janna of CIBA Vision picked me as the demo blogger. She patiently taught me how to put them on and take them off. The first step is always washing and drying your hands properly. Thanks neighbor / BFF Mrs. M for this photo!

CIBA Vision Freshlook Contact LensesI put on Freshlook One Day contact lenses in gray. It's not too obvious in the photo above because the function room was not brightly lit. It was tough, Dr. Janna ended up putting them on and taking them off for me. :p

Yumemiya Japanese Cafe Greenhills Review

I'm currently addicted to this little authentic Japanese franchise on Connecticut St. -- Yumemiya Japanese Cafe! It really reminds me of the cafes I had seen all over Tokyo and Osaka during my past trips to Japan. There is one difference -- everything on the menu here in Manila is significantly cheaper! Good news for me.

Before anything else, I just want to mention that the food featured in this post are the results of three visits to the restaurant in a span of two weeks. :p

Yumemiya Japanese Cafe Greenhills Review

I really like the simple, neat, and modern interiors.

Yumemiya Japanese Cafe Greenhills Review They provide you with utensils the way they do it in Japan... in a separate case depending on what type of food you ordered.

Yumemiya Japanese Cafe Greenhills ReviewHubby opted for Curry Omelet (P248, pictured above) on our first visit. Steamed Japanese rice is topped with folded scrambled egg and nori (seaweed) strips beside a pool of piping hot curry. The curry is just the right level of slightly sweet and spicy.

Closeup Fire-Freeze toothpaste!

I recently got to try the new Closeup Fire-Freeze toothpaste. I usually get Closeup for my kids because there's a wide variety of flavors to choose from. They get bored easily so when there's a new toothpaste to try they're excited to brush their teeth all over again.

Closeup Fire-Freeze toothpasteI was intrigued by Closeup Fire-Freeze as soon as I saw the packaging which promises both warm and cool sensations at the same time.

Closeup Fire-Freeze toothpasteCloseup Fire-Freeze toothpaste comes in three tube sizes:

  • 50ml for P37.90
  • 100ml for P59.90
  • 150ml for P86.90
Closeup Fire-Freeze toothpasteYou can see the fire and ice components as soon as you squeeze the toothpaste out of the tube as it comes out half blue and half red.

Win prizes with Nivea and Mango's Glam Board Express on FB!

I was invited to the launch of Nivea's Glam Board Express FB app at the Mango boutique in Power Plant Mall last Aug. 11, 2011.

Nivea and Mango Glam Board Express LaunchThere was also an extensive sampling of Nivea's latest in skin care -- Nivea Express Hydration Body Lotion (which I am giving away HERE, product review to follow). After all, fashionable clothes and silky soft smooth skin are the key elements to glamming it up. :)

Nivea and Mango Glam Board Express LaunchAs soon as I registered I was informed that there was a styling game ongoing. We would group ourselves into teams of three with one person as the model while the other two serve as stylists. We would then be given a peg of a look to recreate on our model. I teamed up with Marj and Martha. Lucky for us the peg we got was Marj's specialty -- animal print! We plotted our attack and decided that one would look for the dress and shoes while the other would complete the accessories (bag and baubles). Then we would all meet up at the dressing room.

Nivea and Mango Glam Board Express LaunchLucky for us Martha is sooo easy to dress. She practically slips into everything and she can run in 3-4 inch heels! This is our completed look! We did it in a little over 4 minutes. :D

Lorenzo's Way Greenbelt 5 Review

I had dinner with some high school friends at a swank Filipino restaurant called Lorenzo's Way in Greenbelt 5 a few weeks ago. Lorenzo's Way is brought to us by the LJC Restaurant Group, the driving force behind Pinoy classics like Cafe Adriatico and Bistro Remedios, as well as new favorites like Abe and Fely J.

Lorenzo's Way Greenbelt 5 ReviewWe had Bamboo Rice (P240, pictured above and below), which according to the menu is from Abe. It had a very nice aroma as it was laid down our table. It also gets plus points for presentation.

Lorenzo's Way Greenbelt 5 ReviewBamboo Rice is actually fried rice with bamboo shoots, shrimps, chicken, and wood ear mushrooms. It smelled nice and it tasted okay. Nothing really memorable but okay. The rice had a sticky quality that's not usual of fried rice and I think it's better that way.

Lorenzo's Way Greenbelt 5 ReviewThen we had Beef Ribs Ninja (P475, pictured above). I found it expensive for such a small dish that tastes like regular beef cooked in soy sauce and brown sugar. Again, nothing special.

Unboxing the Samsung Galaxy S2!

I finally got my hands on the cellphone of my dreams, the much-coveted and widely sold out Samsung Galaxy SII. It was quite a wait but one that's well worth it. :)

Samsung Galaxy S2 unboxingI've been on S2 withdrawal ever since I returned the demo unit I spent considerable time with for Animetric's Guess and Win Promo last June. It's really just the best cellphone I've ever used and I've used a whole lot...

Samsung Galaxy S2 unboxingI felt like a kid during Christmas morning as I opened the box to reveal my new toy.

Samsung Galaxy S2 unboxingIt's bigger than an Apple iPhone but it's much lighter since it's very slim. The battery cover is made of what seems like extremely lightweight and flexible carbon fiber material too.

Make-up for mature women (50 and up?) at HD Makeup Studio & Academy

Last week, I made up three people in make-up class. A teenage boy, an elderly woman, and a teenage girl.

HD Makeup Studio and AcademyI won't even bother telling you about the boy. Making up a guy is BORING. All you do is apply foundation (to even out the skin tone), concealer (to hide flaws), and contouring stuff (to shape the face). So basically what you have to do is give him an even sun-kissed look and define his facial angles.

HD Makeup Studio and AcademyMaking up an elderly woman however is an entirely different story. You have so many challenges to overcome: droopy eyes, lines, wrinkles, and skin that's not as firm as we'd like. When my model took a seat, I wasn't really sure if I could make a difference.

HD Makeup Studio and AcademyI applied what Sir Jeave (our instructor) taught us during the lecture. I started by shaving stray hairs on her brow area.

Ukokkei Ramen Ron in Makati City

Hubby and I went out to lunch with The Club at Ukokkei Ramen Ron one sunny Sunday. We arrived at around 11:30am. There was already a line outside the restaurant. So many people want to eat here every time we go!

We finally made it in and I wasted no time in ordering the Set A (P380) which includes the following:

  • Ramen
  • Half Chahan (Fried Rice) or Rice (Steamed)
  • Gyoza
  • Salad
Ukkokei Ramen Ron Makati ReviewYou get four pieces of Gyoza (Japanese fried pork dumplings) with Set A. You have to make your own sauce by mixing the contents of the available bottles on your table. I like Ukkokei Ramen Ron's Gyoza. They're properly crisped at the bottom (the way they do it in Japan) and they're filled with lean and juicy ground pork.

Ukkokei Ramen Ron Makati ReviewThe Salad is actually half macaroni salad and half green salad that's made of shredded lettuce with bits of pickles which you douse in Gyoza sauce (at least that's what I do).

Ukkokei Ramen Ron Makati ReviewI opted for Chahan or Fried Rice instead of plain old steamed rice. It's about half a cup in terms of amount. I liked how it's not overly greasy yet tasty.

Hed Kandi Pure Kandi earphones in Purple

To tell you the truth, I'm not really fond of sticking things into my ears. Those plug type earphones annoy the heck out of me and I don't even own an iPod.

Hed Kandi Pure Kandi Earphones ReviewI do however, have everything else -- an iPad, a laptop, a cellphone with a music player, a Sony PS3... so yes, there are many possible uses for this pair of Hed Kandi Pure Kandi earphones I'm reviewing. I picked purple because it's my daughter's favorite color. The packaging is sooo cute I almost did not want to open it.

Hed Kandi Pure Kandi Earphones Review

It's an undeniably pretty pair of nice and shiny earphones.

It comes with a lengthy cord for more flexibility. This will allow me to use it with my Sony PS3 while I'm in bed. :p

Paradis Natural Ice Cream

*This cafe has CLOSED but Paradis now has a kiosk at the ground floor of Il Terrazzo in Quezon City.*

I bought a voucher from Groupon Philippines a few months ago for Paradis Natural Ice Cream. I paid P75 in order to get P150 worth.

Paradis Natural Ice CreamI finally got to pay Paradis Natural Ice Cream a visit a week or so ago. I found the clean green and white interiors very cute and cozy.

Paradis Natural Ice CreamIce cream was more expensive than I expected. A medium-sized cup of Ube Taro ice cream cost P145 so my voucher was just right for it. Paradis' ice cream flavors are very unique. There's Pumpkin, Malunggay, and Chili Chocolate with Saffron just to name a few. They are made the natural way from organic ingredients so they're a healthier frozen dessert alternative.

Paradis Natural Ice CreamI love the Ube Taro ice cream I ordered. It's not overly sweet. It's also slow-melting and chewy, kind of like eating really cold halayang ube (purple yam jam?) and taro at the same time. I daresay it's one of the best cups of ice cream I've ever had. Hubby liked it too as he shared it with me since it's a pretty hefty serving.

I want to go back and try the other flavors! They serve food too, I saw some pasta dishes, salads, and sandwiches on the menu. :)

Win Apple iPad 2's from Chevrolet Philippines' Spark Virtual Carpool Club!

I was invited to the launch of Chevrolet Philippine's Spark Virtual Carpool Club last Aug. 9, 2011. It was a very casual affair. I went because I drive every single day and so I thought it was quite relevant to my daily life.

Chevrolet Philippines Spark Virtual Carpool ClubThey of course showcased the Chevy Spark, a very cute compact car that retails for as low as P518,888. When given the option I always pick Japanese cars and so I can't really say anything about the Chevy Spark or any Chevrolet automobile for that matter based on personal experience. I was however, impressed by the space efficiency. The Chevy folks had a parlor game where 10 people per team had to fit themselves into two Chevy Sparks in the fastest time. Both teams were able to do so! And no, I did not join... :p

Chevrolet Philippines Spark Virtual Carpool ClubThe Chevy Spark comes in several different colors and comes with a 5-year warranty for your peace of mind. :)

Chevy Spark Virtual Carpool Club

So are you ready to try and win those iPad 2's at stake? Simply like Chevrolet Philippines' FB page at and click on the Spark Virtual Carpool Club tab on the left side bar. Register and start inviting your friends to join. Each car seats five people including you as the driver. Every time you successfully invite four friends to join you, you fill up one car and get one raffle entry for the grand draw. If your car gets drawn, you and all the passengers inside will in an Apple iPad 2 each!

Please read the mechanics very well because entries which do not follow them will be disqualified. Dummy FB accounts won't work too because all winners will be required to present two (2) valid government issued IDs that match their registered names when claiming prizes -- no ID, no match, no prize. If as much as one passenger doesn't follow the mechanics, the whole car will be disqualified.

Mustela Hydra Bebe Body Spray for soft and smooth skin!

My first experience with Mustela products was with the baby shampoo my kids tried. After bath products, the next major toiletry that my kids use is lotion. I usually get Johnson's, Nivea, or Cetaphil to keep their skin soft and smooth.

Mustela Hydra Bebe Body Spray ReviewAnd then I was introduced to Mustela Hydra Bebe Body Spray. At first I thought it was some sort of cologne, but as it turns out it's actually a moisturizer in spray form.

Mustela Hydra Bebe Body Spray Review

You shake the bottle well before spraying on the skin surface.

Mustela Hydra Bebe Body Spray ReviewThe product comes out as a milky-colored liquid with the light fluid consistency of water. It's not greasy or oily in any way. It has the refreshing aroma of chamomile just like the shampoo.

Greenwich pizza and pasta at presyong kaibigan!

I was invited to a casual get together at Greenwich last August 3, 2011. I was told to bring ten friends. Haha, it was pretty last minute and so I couldn't really gather a group to go with me. Luckily my friends Abet and Joan were also going to be there so it was still pretty barkada-esque. :D

Greenwich Pizza and Pasta PhilippinesWe started off our barkada feast with the 7-Cheese Overload (P229 for the Double size). I love the creamy cheesiness. It's topped with Mozzarella, Cheddar, Edam, Parmesan, Cream Cheese, Bleu Cheese, and Special Cheese (I wonder what that is... :P). You know what else I noticed? The crust! It's now crisp outside and chewy inside. So yummy. I used to think of Greenwich's pizza crust as similar to those of frozen pizzas. We were told that Greenwich totally changed the recipe and the crust is now made and baked fresh in stores everyday.

Greenwich Pizza and Pasta PhilippinesThen there was Ultimate Hawaiian Overload (P199 for the Double size). Instead of just the usual ham pieces and pineapple chunks, this one also comes with green bell peppers and generous amounts of mozzarella cheese. Loved this one too!

Greenwich Pizza and Pasta PhilippinesFor our third pizza, All Meat and Cheese Overload (P349 for the Barkada size) was brought out. Six kinds of meat in mozzarella cheese sit atop of this pizza. Ham, beef, bacon, and pepperoni were what I could identify. I've never really liked all meat pizzas and this was no exception. It's too salty for my tastes and as a result I gave up on it after a couple of bites.
