Greens Vegetarian Restaurant and Cafe Quezon City

Mrs. Martinez, Skysenshi, MyMomFriday, and I decided to have a little get together last Jan. 28, 2011. We were throwing restaurant suggestions around when I got the idea to go to Greens Vegetarian Restaurant and Cafe. I could never drag guys there and so hubby and friends were out of the question. Since we were all girls, it was perfect. :)

Greens Vegetarian Restaurant ReviewGreens is actually a quaint green house along Sct. Castor Street. Interestingly, they serve no meat, no fish, and no eggs!

Greens Vegetarian Restaurant and Cafe ReviewI was surprised because they had so many patrons during lunch on a weekday. These tables were all filled up by 12nn.

Greens Vegetarian Restaurant and Cafe Quezon CityMymomfriday ordered Roasted Veggies Wrap (P80, pictured above) which we had sliced into four portions.

L'oreal Paris White Perfect Fairness Control Day Cream Review

Sometime during the last quarter of 2010, I came across L'oreal Paris White Perfect Fairness Control Moisturizing Day Cream. It promised to be 50x more powerful when it comes to whitening.

L'oreal Paris White Perfect Fairness Control Moisturizing Day Cream Review

I finally got to actually roadtest the product this January 2011.

L'oreal Paris White Perfect Fairness Control Moisturizing Day Cream Review

As expected, the day cream is thick, rich, and well... white in color.

L'oreal Paris White Perfect Fairness Control Moisturizing Day Cream ReviewIt's very creamy and lightly scented, which is a plus. I don't like using heavily scented products on my face. Since it's a daytime moisturizer, it has SPF 17 to protect your face from the sun's harmful rays. Did I mention that it's non-greasy too?

TGIFriday's Potato Skins Snack Chips

I saw this interesting snack during a shopping trip to S&R Membership Shopping a couple of weeks ago...

TGIFriday's Potato Skins Snack Chips in Cheddar & Bacon

TGIFriday's Potato Skins Snack Chips in Cheddar & Bacon!

TGIFriday's Potato Skins Snack Chips in Cheddar & BaconThe pack cost only P19.95 because it was very small... about the size of a regular Chippy. Net weight is just 1 oz. and I couldn't find a bigger size. You can actually count the number of chips after opening the pack.

TGIFriday's Potato Skins Snack Chips in Cheddar & BaconEach piece is oblique and thicker than the usual potato chip. It's very tasty too! Lots of cheddar and bacon flavors. You can easily finish the pack in one sitting. Yummy!

The Real Thing Diner at Il Terrazzo, Quezon City

*This establishment is now CLOSED.*

We were invited to check out the newly opened Coca-Cola themed restaurant called The Real Thing Diner at Il Terrazzo in Quezon City.

The Real Thing Diner Il Terrazzo

You can easily spot it on the second floor of Il Terrazzo.

The Real Thing Diner Il Terrazzo

The red and white interiors remind me of Facebook's Restaurant City diner theme. Haha!

The Real Thing Diner Il Terrazzo

There's lots of Coke merchandise and memorabilia.

Havaianas Always Summer Race to Hawaii Contest!

Bloggers gathered at the Manila Polo Club last night for the launch of the Havaianas Always Summer campaign.

Havaianas Always Summer Race to HawaiiThe big news of the night was the announcement of the Havaianas Always Summer: Race to Hawaii contest. Just purchase two pairs (one for each team member) of Havaianas to get a chance to win a slot in the race. You will be asked to do summer-related tasks and the first twenty teams to finish will be flown to Boracay to compete in the final leg. The grand prize will be a trip to Hawaii. I don't have the complete mechanics at the moment but I will update this page as soon as I get them.

Havaianas Always Summer Race to HawaiiThe event was hosted by this happy-looking dude, a VJ from Channel V. Unfortunately I don't watch TV and so I can't tell you his name. Maybe you know him? XD

Havaianas Always Summer Race to HawaiiHavaianas Philippines Managing Director Anna Gonzales graced the event as well. :)

Havaianas Always Summer Race to HawaiiI was there with blogger friends -- from left to right: Abet, me, Ria, Fran, Paul, and Arvin.

Shiseido Perfect Rouge Lipstick Review

I got Shiseido Perfect Rouge in PK 303 Pink Mesa (P1,150) as a gift from my mom-in-law some time ago.

Shiseido Perfect Rouge Lipstick in PK 303 Pink Mesa

I was quite excited to use it since I haven't tried any of Shiseido's lipsticks.

Shiseido Perfect Rouge Lipstick in PK 303 Pink Mesa

The color is very subtle.

It's a neutral hue that has just a bit of shine.

Lola Maria Restaurant at The Legend Villas

With the exception of a couple of malls, I hardly ever go to Mandaluyong unless I'm passing through to get to Makati. So when I was invited for a food-tasting session at Lola Maria Restaurant at The Legend Villas, I had visions of Subic or some place equally far from Manila. Then I read that it's actually just on Pioneer St. -- so I confirmed.

The Legend Villas is a Filipino-themed hotel which is located right across Robinsons Cybergate Center. My friend Frannywanny told me that Summit Media usually holds business meetings there. Not surprising since they have function rooms in all shapes and sizes, plus team suites in case you need facilities for overnight stay.

Lola Maria Restaurant in The Legend VillasAnyways, I proceeded to Lola Maria Restaurant on the ground floor of The Legend Villas. It was quaint and cozy, so it felt more like visiting an acquaintance's house.

Lola Maria Restaurant in The Legend VillasI was immediately served a drink sampler to start off the Degustation (P1,350 per person net for all the dishes shown here) as soon as I was settled. The drink sampler consisted of three small glasses of Dalandan Slush, Pandan Iced Tea, and Pomelo Slush. I picked the refereshingly unique pink Pomelo Slush as my full-sized drink.

Lola Maria Restaurant The Legend VillasAppetizers were brought out shortly after. The surprise of the night was we were going to be sampling eight (8) new dishes for 2011, and they were all celebrity recipes! First in line was Vegetable Quiche (P155 for 5 pieces a la carte, pictured above and below) by designer Randy Ortiz.

Yogi Bear 3D showing on January 26!

I was invited to the advanced screening of Yogi Bear in 3D last January 23, 2011 at Glorietta 4.

Yogi Bear 3D Movie 2011When I was a little girl, I always watched Yogi Bear cartoons with my younger sister. I remember the tall brown bear with the green hat and tie and his little bear sidekick Boo Boo. I think he would always say something like "Hey hey hey...".

Yogi Bear 3D MovieYogi was always making mischief in Jellystone Park, much to the constant ire of Ranger Smith. Well, that hasn't changed. This movie is just a very much updated live action/CGI version of the cartoon that we (at least I) grew up with. The Yogi Bear of today spends his time trying to think of unique ways of swiping the picnic baskets of park goers.

Yogi Bear 3D MovieRanger Smith (Tom Cavanaugh) gets a love interest in the person of the nature-loving Rachel (Anna Faris). Rachel wants to shoot a documentary about the bears in Jellystone Park and Ranger Smith is more than happy to assist her.

B&T Mexican Kitchen along Ortigas Ave.

We were invited to check out B&T Mexican Kitchen along Ortigas Ave. last Jan. 20, 2011. B&T Mexican Kitchen was opened by one of the former co-owners of Ristras.

B&T Mexican Kitchen OrtigasThe place has a cheery green and orange color scheme. Do pardon the messy table... I arrived a bit late and so there was already quite an amount of food there. :)

B&T Mexican Kitchen OrtigasI had some Chips and Chili Con Carne (P180, pictured above) to get me started. The Chili Con Carne has baked beans and ground beef on the bottom layer and a dollop of sour cream with grated cheese and green onions on top. Yummy! :D

B&T Mexican Kitchen OrtigasNext I tried a slice of Mexican Vegetarian Pizza (P430, pictured above). I loved how the cheese was toasted and embedded on the crisp yet soft tortilla crust (I didn't even think it was possible to be crisp yet soft at the same time!). Sweet corn kernels, olives, minced onions, sliced green bell peppers, and diced tomatoes top it.

An alternative take on the Big Bad Blogger issue

Okay, before anything else, I usually refrain from posting about Pinoy Blogosphere brouhaha. To give you a brief backgrounder, let me share this article by Margaux Salcedo on the Philippine Daily Inquirer entitled "Please Don't Give Blogging a Bad Name".

To make a long story short, according to Margaux, there's a PR firm and a Big Bad Blogger (BBB) going around trying to extort money from restaurants. How? BBB will go to the restaurant, eat, and then post an online review. PR agency allegedly tries to get the restaurant to pay in order to ensure good reviews from BBB. Refusal to pay will make the PR agency unleash BBB's wrath via a very bad review.

Imagine my surprise when I heard that a friend of mine actually got the very same "offer" from the PR firm. Yes, she named the firm. And no, I am not ready to believe that this firm will risk everything just for something like this because they are quite well-known in the field and they are handling a lot of high profile clients. I have worked with them in non-blog projects and so far they have been professional and competent.

What if, just what if... someone is out to ruin this PR firm? Maybe someone is out there indeed making these extortionist offers and then using the PR firm's name to do it. It has occured to people that maybe PR firm is using BBB's name to get some business via extortion, but what if it were the other way around? Maybe someone is using PR firm's name without them knowing it.

I am not taking sides, but given all that this firm has to lose and what superficial payolas they stand to gain if they were indeed engaging in this activity, it makes no sense.

Human Nature Body Butter with Goat's Milk, Cocoa, and Mango

Another body butter post! This time it's from Human Nature. It's just that my skin gets so dry this time of the year so I've been using body butters to moisturize instead of regular lotion.

Human Nature Body Butter with Goat's Milk, Cocoa, and MangoI love the lid art on this 100g tub of Human Nature Body Butter. It's looks almost as if it were food... hahaha! I got the mango-scented variant.

Human Nature Body Butter ReviewOpening the tub reveals a pure white and creamy body butter. This is after all Human Nature, so it's organic and free from harmful chemicals and colorants. I can't get over the delicious scent of fresh ripe mangoes. It's like opening a tub of dessert, the fruity scent is so real you almost want to eat it. :p

Human Nature Body Butter Review

So thick, rich, and creamy... I'm almost tempted to say yum! XD

Army Navy Burger + Burrito in Ortigas

After a vigorous workout at 360° Fitness Club, we were all ravenous... so we decided to cross the street to the nearest burger place which turned out to be Army Navy Burger + Burrito along F. Ortigas Jr. Rd. (formerly known as Emerald Ave.).

Army Navy Burger Burrito OrtigasI heard that Army Navy Burger + Burrito is owned by the same group behind Yellow Cab Pizza. The set-up is rather similar -- you go over to the counter, place your order, pay up, get a number, then wait for them to serve food on the table.

Army Navy Burger Burrito OrtigasThe interiors are very simple. I think they are aiming for a spartan look befitting of their store's name. All that's missing are bunker beds. :P

Army Navy Burger Burrito OrtigasI ordered a large size LiberTea Iced Tea (P55, pictured above). It's really refreshing! I love the light citrus-infused taste with just the right sweetness. :)

Circuit training at 360° Fitness Club in Ortigas

We visited 360° Fitness Club in Ortigas last Jan. 19, 2011. Seven of us availed of the free 360° circuit training trial session.

360 Fitness Club OrtigasThe whole idea behind the 360° circuit training session is to incorporate a full body workout in just 30 minutes. You go around 20 exercise stations (10 active and 10 active rest stations) in 30 minutes. You spend 30 seconds per station.

360 Fitness Club OrtigasAn active station has either weights in the form of dumbbells or balls, mats for floor exercises, a TRX suspension cable, and so forth.

Circuit training at 360 Fitness ClubAn active rest station has either a trampoline, a pair of hurdles, or just a pair of stickers to indicate that you should jog in place.

You exercise non-stop by going around all the stations in 30 minutes. If you're a beginner, the coach will start you off with level 1 circuit training. The highest you can go is level 5. Circuit training combines cardiovascular and strengthening exercises. It's suggested that you do it at least 3x a week in order to get the full benefits.

My experience is that 30 minutes felt more like 2 hours due to the sheer level of the workout you get. Muscles I didn't know existed were sore, my heart rate was up, and I sweat buckets throughout the entire cycle. It felt good! We're seriously considering getting a month's membership just to see how effective the program would be for us. I read that the monthly membership fee is around P2,400 but they can give discounts and packages. Aside from circuit training they also have special classes for Hip Hop, Latin Dance, TRX training, etc.

Anyone can just call or walk-in to avail of a free trial 360° circuit training session. :D

13/F Strata 100 Bldg.,
F. Ortigas Jr. Road (formerly Emerald Ave.),
Ortigas Center, Pasig City

WARNING: If you are availing of the free trial, do not leave your real email address and cellphone number. My goodness, I've been getting spam on my cellphone and email almost everyday after I registered for the free trial. They even called me past 9pm to check if I was availing of anything! I'm so irritated I've blocked their email address and I plan on calling them to ask them to stop calling me.

Allies Dry Roasted Wonder Peanuts!

We got to taste our friends Paul and Fran's new discovery a couple of weeks ago -- Allies Dry Roasted Wonder Peanuts!

Allies Dry Roasted Wonder PeanutsMy son immediately opened the container when he got home from school. "These peanuts are so good!" were his exact words. Truth be told I much rather have him snacking on peanuts which are much healthier compared to chips and sweets.

Allies Dry Roasted Wonder PeanutsI love how these peanuts are so tasty yet not at all greasy. As you can see there are really a lot of crunchy garlic chips! Yum! I'm addicted to garlic chips! :D

They're so good that my hubby, who absolutely refuses to eat nuts since he believes they cause him to break out, could not resist munching on a few.

Allies Wonder Peanuts

Look ma, no grease! :D

Allies Dry Roasted Peanut cost about P150 to P160 per container. You can order from Just Craving.

Anlene against Osteoporosis

I've always been an avid milk drinker ever since I was a child. I don't know... I just like the taste. Didn't even matter if it was cow's milk, soya milk, or whatever type of milk, as long as it's milk... :)

Anlene vs OsteoporosisLast Jan. 18, 2011, I was invited to Anlene's advocacy event at New World Hotel. It's for their ongoing campaign against Osteoporosis, a bone disease which can lead to fracture. There was free-flowing Anlene of course. :)

Free bone scan from AnleneI was immediately ushered in for a free bone scan to check my risk factor for Osteoporosis. I had one several years ago and I got very good results. I attribute it to my love for milk.

Free Bone Scan from AnleneI placed my right foot in the middle of this contraption. It works like a blood pressure gauge, the rubber cushion around my ankles gradually tightened...

Mr. Jones Greenbelt 5 Review

One of my favorite restaurants in the metro is definitely Mr. Jones in Greenbelt 5. I've dined there at least 3 times in the last several months and that says a lot considering I'm one to always make it a point to try a new place every time.

Mr. Jones Greenbelt 5 ReviewIt's very hard to get seats at Mr. Jones during lunch or dinner time. This is because a lot of people want to eat there and there are only about 5 tables inside. Even the al fresco area gets filled up easily.

Mr. Jones Greenbelt 5 ReviewMr. Jones exudes that 1950's American diner vibe. Check out the Restaurant City-esque diner style tables and chairs. There's even a mini jukebox on display near the entrance, and all the songs they play hail from Elvis Presley's era.

Mr. Jones Greenbelt 5 ReviewHubby and I decided to have lunch there last Sunday with the family. We immediately ordered "Garlic Portobello" Steak and Eggs (P525, pictured above) to share. It's our all-time favorite from Mr. Jones. The steak is very tender, juicy, and tasty plus it comes with 3 eggs any style you want. I love the garlic roasted mushrooms that top the steak. A generous helping of roasted rosemary potatoes ensure that your hunger pangs are satisfied. Two wedges of sweet ripe orange help cleanse the palate. :D

110 years of reliability with Eveready!

When I was a little girl, my grandfather had a heavy metal flashlight just like this...

Eveready Metalight LED SpotlightI remember playing with it, pushing the little black button that turns the flashlight on and off depending on how long you press it. It emitted a bright yellowish light. This isn't that flashlight. This is in fact the new generation Eveready Metalight LED Spotlight. It looks heavy but it's really not -- it's even lighter than our TV's remote control.

Eveready Battery PhilippinesYou can distinguish it from generic flashlights with the Eveready logo embossed on the bottom.

Eveready Battery PhilippinesThe Eveready Metalight LED Spotlight emits a bluish white light that's really bright.

The Body Shop Body Butter

I've been using The Body Shop's Body Butter in Cranberry Joy the past couple of weeks since my skin's been on the dry side with January's reduced humidity.

The Body Shop Body Butter in Cranberry Joy
The Body Shop Body Butter in Cranberry JoyCranberry Joy is actually a limited edition variant for the holiday season. It comes in this cute pink hue and it smells divine. It actually reminds me of creamy yogurt.

The Body Shop Body Butter in Cranberry JoyCheck out the rich and creamy texture. Slathering it on all over when your skin feels dry is really pure indulgence.

The Body Shop Body Butter in Cranberry JoyDespite its consistency, The Body Shop's Body Butter is absorbed quickly by the skin and leaves no greasy residue.
