Cheese Steak Shop now in Manila, Philippines!

There are cheesesteak sandwiches and then there are Philly Cheese Steak sandwiches. These ones I'm featuring here just happen to be the real deal. Why, even the bread is imported from the USA... but more on that later.

Cheese Steak Shop Manila PhilippinesWe were invited to the grand opening of The Cheese Steak Shop in Makati City last Nov. 21, 2011. Sandwiches galore were spread out on the tables. I had a hard time trying to decide which one to get because there were so many. Anyhow, The Cheese Steak Shop's sandwiches come in three satisfying sizes: 7", 10", and 15".

Cheese Steak Shop Manila PhilippinesIf you're not a beef eater, it's perfectly okay. I'm not fond of chicken but The Cheese Steak Shop serves up authentic Philly Cheese Steak that's filled with either beef or chicken.

Cheese Steak Shop Manila PhilippinesI actually liked the Western Premium Cheese Steak which had chicken inside (P320 for 7", pictured above). They use 100% chicken breast meat, which works for me. The Western Cheese Steak has bacon, BBQ sauce, and onion rings aside from beef or chicken. It's slightly spicy. :)

Cheese Steak Shop Manila PhilippinesCheese Steak Shop also serves salads. There are currently four kinds: Philly Salad, Italian Salad, Garden Salad, and Side Salad. I'm just not sure which one the salad above is. Salad prices range from P150 to P635 and one serving is good for sharing. The veggies used are really crisp and fresh.

Cheese Steak Shop Manila PhilippinesAverse to meats? Then have the Original Vegetarian Sandwich (P375 for 10", pictured above). I was too full to try it but my companions told me it's yummy.

Cheese Steak Shop Manila PhilippinesAs for me, I had half of a Garlic Premium Cheese Steak (P300 for 7", pictured above). It has whole roasted garlic cloves, which I love. It's so wonderful how the beef is tender and lean... no fat or ligaments (which I hate). Just pure delicious beef pieces... yum!

Cheese Steak Shop Manila PhilippinesYou can order awesome side dishes too! They have tasty Garlic Fries (P99 reg / P135 large, pictured above), Onion Rings (P120 reg / P180 large, also in the photo above), Twister Fries, and Steak Fries.

Cheese Steak Shop Manila PhilippinesSteve Oakes, founder of Cheese Steak Shop, was present during the grand opening of the first store outside the United States. He showed us the famous Amoroso rolls they use which are shipped straight from Philadelphia. These rolls are special because they are soft and chewy yet firm and sturdy enough to hold all the juicy meat, fresh veggies, and gooey cheese an authentic Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich should be stuffed to the brim with. They don't change texture even when left for an hour or two on the table. You've got to try it to believe.

Cheese Steak Shop Manila PhilippinesCheese Steak Shop Manila PhilippinesCheese Steak Shop has sort of a 1950's diner vibe. The staff are friendly and efficient.

Cheese Steak Shop Manila PhilippinesAs an added treat, Steve hand-carried some Tastykake from Philadelphia for us to have for dessert! Wow, these cakes are good! I hope Cheese Steak Shop starts selling them in the future. Don't forget to try their yummy cheese sauce too, it's great for dipping those sides in.

Now is a perfect time to drop by Cheese Steak Shop in Makati because it's buy 1 take 1 on all 7" sandwiches until Nov. 24, 2011 (for dine-in only)! In fact my hubby just went there earlier and took home some sandwiches for the kids and I. Go go go! :D
