Rebonding at Akira Hair and Make-Up Studio or Shuji Kida Hair Salon???

Um... I was supposed to post about food today because I usually alternate the topics so it goes something like food, beauty, tech, etc. for each day. But due to reader inquiries as to how my hair is doing after having undergone YUKO hair straightening at Akira Salon, I decided to post about it instead.

Akira Salon's YUKO rebonding after shampooOkay so this is my hair after I shampooed and dried it myself at home. I tossed it dry using the low setting of the hair dryer. My hair is so thick that I cannot live without a hair dryer because it takes several hours to dry on its own.

Akira Salon's YUKO rebonding after shampooIt falls naturally. A lot of people who've seen me in person have commented that my hair doesn't look rebonded.

Akira Salon's YUKO rebonding after shampooMy hair doesn't fall stick straight like walis tingting (type of broom), it still has body and shape.

Advantages and disadvantages of Shuji Kida's straightening:
  • It's pretty expensive. The first time I had it done in 2009 I paid over P6,500. (-)

  • A Japanese stylist will work on your hair and his/her ironing technique is to die for. (+)

  • You pay separately for a hair cut depending on the stylist you pick. (-)

  • Your hair comes out very soft, smooth, straight, shiny, and very natural-looking. (+)

  • Salon is located in Ortigas. (+ / - depending on where you're from)

  • Process takes about 4+ hours for my thick hair.
Advantages and disadvantages of Akira's straightening:
  • Lower pricing compared to Shuji Kida. Long hair can be rebonded and cut for a total of P6,400. Akira holds deals on various deal sites quite often too. Instead of paying P6,400 I just paid a little over P2,600 because I got a voucher from Groupon Philippines. (+)

  • A Filipino stylist will work on your hair, but he/she is very well-trained by Akira so it's still excellent work. But I noticed the ironing technique of the Japanese stylist is superior in the sense that he does it with a slight curve at the bottom so hair is more natural-looking after. (-/+)

  • Your hair comes out smooth, straight, shiny, and relatively natural-looking. Not as incredibly soft to the touch as Shuji Kida's but still a world better than rebonding at salons like Ricky Reyes etc. My hair seems to be drier and more prone to tangles with Akira's process compared to Shuji Kida's too. (-)

  • Salon is located in Makati. (+/- depending on where you're from)

  • Process takes over 5 hours for my thick hair. (-)
If both were priced the same I would definitely go for Shuji Kida Hair Salon. But if Akira has another deal next year, I will have it done there again.

I hope this helps! You will need to call and set an appointment with both establishments should you decide to have your hair straightened. :D
