So this was my hair as of Sept. 21, 2011. The lower portion was relatively okay, just a slight natural wave but the root area? Ugh!
See the unsightly and abnormally curly roots at the back of my head? That's just how weird my hair is. On the front and the sides it seems normal but underneath the back of my head is where the trouble lies.
We started at about 10am. The first step was wetting my hair and then putting on a primer to make it more receptive to the straightening treatment. The fact that the stylist never used gloves is testament to how gentle the products used for the process are. After the primer was rinsed off, my hair was blow-dried.
This is the long and tedious part -- ironing! Since my hair is both long and thick it's really every stylist's nightmare. Let's put it this way, we were still ironing by 1:30pm. The Japanese way requires that you take only a very very thin 1-inch section of hair for ironing so that your whole head of hair is really really straight after the procedure.
After my unruly hair was ironed into submission, a neutralizer was applied all over to lock in the straightness. Some time later I was ushered to the shampoo area so they could wash it all off. Then they began to blow-dry my hair.
I was amazed by the blow-drying session because I noticed that the stylist did not use any hairbrush. He was just tossing my hair around with his fingers while using the hair dryer and it fell so soft and straight. Other salons would stretch your hair taut with a hair brush while drying so that you don't really know how your hair is afterwards until you try shampooing and drying it yourself at home.
I was given a haircut which was part of the deal after my hair was dry. Nothing dramatic as the stylist wanted to keep the length in order to maximize the smooth and sleek look from the YUKO straightening. Yes my hair was incredibly straight, soft, smooth, and shiny after the treatment. Throughout the treatment I never felt any stinging or burning sensation.
It's like I was born with it. I spend about 6 hours in the salon but hey... I'd say the results are worth it. If you have thinner or shorter hair you'll be done in about 4 hours...
As is the case with other rebonds, I can't shampoo or wet my hair for the next 48 hours. I will come up with another post as to how my hair fares after I've shampooed it and dried it myself at home. The folks over at Akira salon told me to call them if I encounter any problems. I doubt I will, but we'll see. :DThis is how my hair was 3 weeks after the Yuko rebonding - http://animetric.blogspot.com/2011/10/akira-hair-and-make-up-studios-yuko.html
