Yumemiya Japanese Cafe in Greenhills!

I'm currently addicted to this little authentic Japanese franchise on Connecticut St. -- Yumemiya Japanese Cafe! It really reminds me of the cafes I had seen all over Tokyo and Osaka during my past trips to Japan. There is one difference -- everything on the menu here in Manila is significantly cheaper! Good news for me.

Before anything else, I just want to mention that the food featured in this post are the results of three visits to the restaurant in a span of two weeks. :p

Inside Yumemiya Japanese Cafe
I really like the simple, neat, and modern interiors.

They provide you with utensils the way they do it in Japan... in a separate case depending on what type of food you ordered.

Curry Omelet at Yumemiya Japanese CafeHubby opted for Curry Omelet (P248, pictured above) on our first visit. Steamed Japanese rice is topped with folded scrambled egg and nori (seaweed) strips beside a pool of piping hot curry. The curry is just the right level of slightly sweet and spicy.

I ordered one of their bestselling pastas, Spaghetti with Mushroom Japanese Style (P248, pictured above). The spaghetti noodles are cooked perfectly al dente (firm and chewy) and the sauce is ginger-based so it's light and tasty. Different kinds of juicy sliced mushrooms are scattered all over. I loved every bite. :D

On my second trip to Yumemiya Japanese Cafe, I settled for Spaghetti with Cod's Roe and Japanese Pickles in Cream Sauce (P278, pictured above). It's one of their bestselling pasta dishes featuring an interesting combination of cod's roe (fish eggs), nori strips, minced green onions, and cream-based sauce. You mix it all together as to spread the roe around, giving each bite a unique gritty texture. It's delicious but I prefer the mushroom spaghetti. :)

My sis-in-law ordered Smoked Salmon and Egg Pizza Wasabi Sauce (P318, pictured above) to share. A plate-sized pizza topped with lots of cheese, salmon slices, and minced green onions arrived. What made it different was the fried egg in the middle.

We were told that we're supposed to mash the egg and spread it all around the pizza's surface. We let the server handle it because we weren't really sure how to go about it. And yes, the pizza is definitely yummy!

Our son picked Spaghetti Carbonara Japanese Style (P248, pictured above) since he's quite fond of white sauce. My daughter tried it as well. Both agreed that it's very good.

On my third visit I tried Diced Sirloin Steak with Fired Potato and Vegetable on Hot Plate (P398, pictured above). It also comes with a bowl of garlic rice.

The steak cubes are absolutely divine. Juicy, tasty, and cooked to the perfect doneness which I had requested -- medium well. Fired Potato is just their fancy way of saying Fries, haha. I loved the sauce they cooked the beef in, which I could tell is definitely mirin-based (mirin is sweet rice wine). This dish is so good I finished even the corn kernels and broccoli, hahaha! :p

For dessert, we had Warabi Mochi (P139, pictured above), which is sticky rice cake with a smattering soybean flour and served with a small bowl of syrup.

I liked how it's not overly sweet since you control how much syrup you want to put. You can have it with no syrup too.

I've also tried Kanten-jelly with Red Bean, Chestnut, and Dumplings (P199, pictured above). I think they ran out of chestnuts and replaced them with mandarin orange wedges instead. It's served with a bowl of matcha (green tea) which complements the sweetness of the dessert perfectly.

Sticky mochi balls, sweet red beans, assorted jellies... what more can you ask for? There is a version with ice cream but I did not order it since I'm not really fond of ice cream.

Oh, they carry KEY Coffee from Japan too although I have not been able to try it yet. Can you tell that I really love this place? :D

They are full a lot of the time for lunch and dinner so I suggest reserving before you go.
