Recipes by Cafe Metro for home-cooked Filipino dishes!

I was invited to an intimate lunch with a handful of media people at Recipes by Cafe Metro last July 1, 2011.

Kare Kare at Recipes by Cafe MetroWe were served Kare Kare (P338). The dish is actually good for two people but if you're ordering a lot of other viands it is sufficient for sharing. I'm weird when it comes to Kare-Kare. Since I don't eat tails and all that other stuff I usually just consume all the veggies smothered in the yummy peanut butter sauce with a bit 0f bagoong (Filipino shrimp sauce).

General's Chicken at Recipes by Cafe MetroThen came one of their bestsellers, General's Chicken (P210). Crispy fried chicken pieces with skin and sliced eggplants make up this dish. I thought at first that it looked kind of unappetizing but it's actually pretty good. The chicken is amazingly crispy despite being really covered in sauce.

Green Mango Shake at Recipes by Cafe MetroGreen Mango Shake (P85) was what I chose as my drink. I found it quite refreshing. It had tiny bits of mango you can feel and actually chew on while sipping.

Crispy Tilapia with Tamarind Sauce at Recipes by Cafe MetroCrispy Tilapia with Tamarind Sauce (P220) looked kinda scary with the toothy open-mouthed fish facing us but it's nice and crunchy. The tangy and sweet tamarind (sampaloc) sauce gives it a unique twist.

Crispy Bangus at Recipes by Cafe MetroCrispy Bangus (P185), just as the name suggests, are crispy seasoned milkfish fritters. Tasty even without the dipping sauce.

Prawns with Aligue at Recipes by Cafe MetroPrawns with Aligue (P310) was another interesting dish. Three large prawns are cooked in spicy aligue-based (aligue is crab fat) sauce which is just yummy. This goes very well with steamed rice. My only complaint is the prawns were overcooked so the meat was quite stuck to the skin and hard to detach.

Lechon Kawali at Recipes by Cafe MetroLechon Kawali with Kangkong (P210) was the last dish I could afford to try since I was already full. The kangkong is fresh and crips, served in a flavorful yet non-greasy sauce and then topped with crunchy lechon kawali. Just order this with garlic rice and you're all set. :)

If you're hankering for some good old-fashioned home-cooked Pinoy fare, Recipes by Cafe Metro is a place to check out.
