Sauteed Flat Lobster with Noodles was the first dish out. I was kind of iffy at first because I'm not really fond of lobsters, but my mom-in-law insisted that I should at least get a piece because all her friends were raving about this particular dish. I did (get a lobster piece) and I was surprised at how naturally sweet the lobster meat was. The noodles were cooked perfectly al dente and were infused with a distinct seafood flavor from being sauteed with the lobster.
Double Boiled Wild Mushroom Native Chicken Soup was up next. It came in individual covered clay pots. I was totally turned off by the chicken foot in my soup so I wasted no time in removing it. The soup had a very pure and clean taste, you can tell that they painstakingly boiled the native chicken for everything it's worth as to yield a very flavorful and soothing (not to mention highly nutritious) soup.
Sauteed Shrimp with Radish Cake and French Beans in Special Sauce was another unique dish comprised of fried and cubed radish cake, big plump shrimps, and tasty french beans. It's a nice mix of sweet and savory flavors.
Peking Chicken Salad was my favorite dish for the night. Chicken cooked Peking Duck style complete with crispy shiny skin is set atop wedges of fried mantou (silver bread) and kani (crabstick) salad. Fresh fruits like kiwi, grapes, and melons are laid out all around it too.
This is a serving of Peking Chicken Salad on my plate. It's so yummy! I think I finished most of the kiwi slices too. :p
Baked Taro Seafood with Polonchay was another unique dish. Although I like taro, I didn't enjoy this as much as the other dishes. Too mushy perhaps? I'm not really sure why but I found it so-so and just had one spoonful.
Steamed Garoupa with Tauso was another big hit. A whole steamed lapu-lapu is encrusted with crisped powdered beans in bean based sauce.
For dessert we had Hot Taro with Tapioca (I'm not really sure if that's what it's called as I only had my mother-in-law's handwritten note to go on). I actually prefer this to the usual mango sago because I find it not overly sweet and its warmth is certainly calming after a whole barrage of dishes cooked in oil.
As an added treat we were also given a complimentary serving of Masachi, glutinous rice dumplings filled with black sesame paste and covered with powdered peanuts. I love Masachi. :)Even though more and more new Chinese restaurants are opening around the metro, Gloriamaris remains to be one of the top picks by Chinese families everywhere especially when celebrating special occasions like birthdays, weddings, etc. It's not hard to see why as they've succeeded in maintaining the quality and taste of the food served over the years, even incorporating the more unusual Chinese dishes into the selections.
