Anyhow, I told her I would help her set up a free blogger account. She was very excited. She picked out her color scheme, template, and she even came up with her own title -- K Box: Stuff I love! I let her take her own photos (unless she is doing or demonstrating something then I'm the one who takes them) and type her own words. I just correct her spelling and grammar as needed, fully explaining what is wrong and what needs to be changed. I am after all a grammar nazi. :pShe has around 8 posts as of today, they're mostly about her favorite playthings. See, she's not the typical little girl. She doesn't like Barbie dolls because she thinks they're boring. She frowns in disdain over Disney Princesses and would rather play with a plastic bow and arrow from 168 Mall. She's quite adept at video games, able to defeat bosses in games like Super Smash Brothers. She also finished Plants vs. Zombies on her own.
She has the passion and is very dedicated to her blog. She says wants to post every single day and she always checks if there are any comments so she can reply (she's actually very happy whenever people comment).
I think this is a good exercise for my daughter for the following reasons:
- Blogging lets her explore several different areas of interest: writing, photography, and computer.
- She can practice her writing skills. I want her to improve her spelling and grammar over time. My 10-year old son already hates writing as it is, so hopefully my daughter will learn to love it as much as I do.
- She can practice interacting with people via reading and replying to comments.
When she asked me what she should blog about, I told her to think about the things she likes and then write about them. It's very simple and I feel it's really blogging at its most basic and most innocent form. She doesn't know anything about placing ads, attending events, or BBB. She just keeps on posting without expecting anything in return except for maybe a few comments here and there. Her dad has also been supportive, saying that one day when she grows up she will be able to look at this as a chronicle of her childhood in her own words and photos.
I've been sharing her posts on my FB account and several friends have been kind enough to leave comments. Thank you friends for the support! She is always thrilled whenever there's a new comment because she reads every single one. :)
My daughter's blog is at http://keibox.blogspot.com.
