I spent a good part of my Saturday morning at Two Serendra last October 13, 2010.
I was there for the Saturday Brunch Club, a series of events that celebrate diverse passions as represented by The Meranti, Two Serendra's third and newest high-rise section.
It was my first time inside Two Serendra. We were given a guided tour and I was amazed by the lush greenery that greeted me. We were told that this is due to Alveo Land's 65% green philosophy, giving residents more open space which is virtually unheard of in condo living. There are actually several parks and gardens all over the property. Normally developers would opt to maximize the land area by fitting in as many units as they can, but this just isn't so at Two Serendra. You can stroll, jog, or even throw frisbees around with all the space.
Since Two Serendra is comprised of several clusters of high-rise condominums, there are several strategically-located swimming pools residents can enjoy. This is so that you won't have to walk too far to swim. :)
Two Serendra has a lot of places where you can just lounge and chill, or meet up with friends. Shown above is the Almond Veranda. Part of Alveo Land's sustainability program is coming up with naturally illuminated and open air common areas which require little to no electricity to light up and ventilate properly.
After our tour, we proceeded inside the Enterprise Lounge, one of the social halls which can be used for gatherings. Jim Araneta of Global Beer Exchange was there to give us a primer on beer-tasting and food pairing. Apparently, beer is the new wine. :p
Jim had us sample six craft beers in all, starting with the mildest and moving on to the strongest and most bitter one. Craft beer refers to beers brewed using traditional methods. They are meant to be distinctive and flavorful. He detailed which dish from the buffet provided by Chef Laudico best matched each beer. I'm not really a drinker and so I just took one sip of everything except for the first beer which I liked best.
The first beer was Gordon Biersch Hefeweizen. It was the mildest and least bitter one. It's 5.4% alcohol at 12 IBU (International Bitterness Units). The higher the IBU, the more bitter the beer is. The fifth beer, Southern Tier India Pale Ale, was the strongest and most bitter one with 6.9% alcohol content and 65 IBU. I could manage only a small sip of beers 2 to 5.
The last beer served was the Anderson Valley Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout, which Jim referred to as a dessert beer. Despite its dark, almost black color, it's actually not very bitter with an IBU of 13. It has sweet hints of hazelnut, malt, and chocolate since they really do put chocolate in it when brewing. It even smells like chocolate. Jim says this goes very well with some Flourless Chocolate Cake for dessert. :DYou may be wondering why The Meranti's Saturday Brunch Club would have a beer-tasting session. Well, we were told that since it's October, they wanted to capture the month's theme -- Oktoberfest!
It was a morning filled with new discoveries for me, makes me wonder what The Meranti's Saturday Brunch Club has in store for us next. :D
