When I got to the venue, tables were set with Jennifer's things. There were feather boas, broken strands of pearls... it was all very 1950's.
A series of notes from Jennifer were also handed out. Apparently, we were all guests at her 32nd birthday celebration and I was seated on the table with her ex-boyfriend Bing.
Bing read Jennifer's note out loud for our whole table to hear. Just like in any birthday party, we sang birthday songs and waited for the celebrator to come out.But she never did. Her husband suddenly announced that she was never coming out because she was dead, and he set up the party to find the killer! Everyone was a suspect.
An inspector stood up and started questioning everyone in the room. Jennifer's husband, stepmother, sister, ex-boyfriend, and best friend all had possible motives for the murder.
Jennifer's best friend Estrelita reacted violently to the allegations... but in the end, the real killer is revealed. It's cervical cancer. Back in the 1950's, there was no vaccine and no means to diagnose the disease so whoever had it then would just end up dead. Jennifer didn't stand a chance.
- Around 12 women die of cervical cancer everyday in the Philippines.
- Cervical cancer is caused by Human Papilloma Viruses (HPVs).
- Sexually active women are at a higher risk for HPV infection.
- You can get a cervical cancer vaccine as early as 10 years old. Being vaccinated at this age yields the highest levels of antibodies.
- An annual pap smear can help detect HPV infections and cervical cancer.
- Cervical cancer symptoms include pain during intercourse and foul odor.
The OB-Gynecologist who spoke at the event told us that cervical cancer looks like rare steak. I had my steak medium well so that photo above is not really an accurate portrayal. :pGlaxo Smithkline's latest cervical cancer vaccine protects against 15 different HPVs, and the protection lasts for at least 20 years. I'm definitely getting myself vaccinated.
Informative, creative, and enjoyable, this is by far one of the best events I've ever attended. Performers from PETA made the whole whodunit scenario very interactive and entertaining. I was half-expecting them to wheel in a coffin with "Jennifer" inside the dimly lit dining area at some point but they did not.
