It was rather quaint and reminiscent of America in the 1950's. There are also photos of Elvis and other icons on the walls. What I didn't like was the fact that it was such a dimly lit and gloomy place. Brighter lights would do wonders, I swear. Booths beside the walls have that old-fashioned toaster you see above so you can toast your own bread.
Butter Diner gets its name from the fact that they have a total of ten flavored butters which you can order from the menu. That being the case, I just had to order Flavored Butter and Bread (P85, pictured above). It's pricey considering it's only three pieces of bread sliced into triangle halves. You get to pick three flavors of butter to go with it. I chose Cinnamon Raisin, BBQ Party, and Butter Diner's Famous Strawberry Butter.
I asked the server what their bestselling butter is. She told me it's their Famous Strawberry Butter. I'd have to agree -- it's so good! If I weren't grossly overweight I would've easily eaten it like a scoop of ice cream. All their butters are very creamy and flavorful but of the three I had, this was the best. BBQ Party was the worst. It tasted like butter mixed with barbecue sauce, the problem being the flavors did not really blend together. Cinnamon Raisin was lovely too.
Hubby and I each had the Sausage and Cheese Omelette (P99, pictured above) as well. It was just okay. A small scoop of their plain butter was served on the side. I tasted it and it was anything but plain, it's sweet and creamy and definitely spreadworthy. The thing is, you have to order bread for the omelette separately. :p
Another thing I wondered about was why everyone who was having breakfast that day had Coors Light on their tables. Well, for starters Butter Diner serves only tap water as their house water. Secondly, Coors Light is the CHEAPEST drink on the menu at P39. Hubby and I ended up sharing one bottle just to tide us over since we weren't willing to spring double that price for something else. We were just passing through and in a rush to leave to boot. For the record, I do not advocate having beer for breakfast. :p
Anyhow, if you like butter, it'd be an interesting experience for you to check out Butter Diner's selection. Here are the flavors:
- Famous Strawberry
- Orange Valenciana
- Mango Tango
- Ham and Cheese
- Crispy Garlic
- Cinnamon Raisin
- Crazy Chocolate Chip
- Blueberry Delight
- BBQ Party
- Smokin' Bacon
Even if I thought the omelette was only so-so and the ambiance left something else to be desired, I'm still curious about the other butter flavors that I didn't get to try. I wonder if they'd sell them for take-out? :p
