The search is on for the Philippines' Smartest Drivers. If you are a Filipino driver of legal age in possession of a valid driver's license, all you have to do is share your fuel-saving tips (yes, there's no limit to the number of entries you can submit!) in order to get a chance to join Team Philippines in the first ever Shell Eco-Marathon in Asia to be held this July 2010. What's more, you get an exclusive Shell V-Power jacket just for joining. Ten finalists get P10,000 worth of Shell fuel vouchers. The two most fuel-efficient drivers out of the ten get to go to Malaysia this July 2010 with Team Philippines in the Asian Shell Eco-Marathon. Meanwhile, the grand prize winner at the Shell Eco-Marathon gets to take home a brand spanking new fuel-efficient car! This is one contest where literally everybody wins!
As for me, I save fuel by turning off the engine during idle times. For instance, there was this one time classes suddenly got cancelled due to a storm so I had to fetch my child immediately. Well, just about every other parent did the same thing so there was a bad non-moving traffic jam around the school vicinity. What I did was turn off the engine -- sure enough I spent the next 20-30 minutes glued to one spot. Can you imagine how wasteful it would've been to have kept the engine running?
