Both standard Mr. Jones menu dishes and exclusive Yummy-fied fare by Chef Kalel Chan were served, starting with a welcome drink that came in the form of a sinfully rich milkshake called The "Yummy" Funky Monkey (pictured above, not in the menu). It had bananas, nutella, vanilla ice cream, and a huge dollop of whipped cream with cherries on top!
We were warmly greeted by the Yummy Magazine folks (from left Editor-in-Chief Becky Kho, Associate Publisher Fran Haw, and Chef Kalel Chan). A surprise was unveiled...
...and that surprise is the Yummy Magazine Popcorn by Chef Tony's! We were all given a tub of Southern French Herbs with Cream Cheese flavored popcorn. This special edition popcorn will be available at P200 per tub this June 2010! :D
There's also a new cookbook in addition to the growing library of Yummy cookbooks -- Yummy Quick & Good (P125, pictured above). This volume contains 72 fast and easy recipes even a culinary-challenged person like me can follow. :D
And then the food was served! We started off our yummy afternoon meal with The Threesome (P395, pictured above), a popular appetizer at Mr. Jones. Three tall parfait glasses filled to the brim with sweet, creamy pineapple-apricot bacon macaroni, old bay and fresh dill prawn with caper berries, and truffled egg salad with black caviar. Everything was sooo good.
Next up was the Yummy Buffalo Drum Pops (pictured above, not available in the menu). Chef Kalel created this special appetizer just for Yummy Magazine. It's kind of like Chicken Lollipop except that these are made from the drumstick part instead of the wings. Seasoned fries are underneath all that chicken, and it came with some sour cream dip. Yummy indeed!
Melted Old Bay Crab and Dory Thermidor (P375, pictured above) landed on our table right after. I loved the brown rice pilaf combined with the tender crab and dory fillet. Mmmm...
Our second main course was Wicked Truffled Mac n' Cheese (P375, pictured above). It's made with four kinds of macaroni, three cheeses, double smoked bacon, baby portobello mushrooms and then drizzled with truffle oil. It's divine. My goodness, they really did not skimp on the truffle oil, I could smell and taste the truffles so clearly.
As if two main courses were not enough, we had US Beef Ribcap "Tapa & Garlic Overload" (P375, pictured above). Crispy fried garlic chips topped the tender and tasty beef strips over fried garlic rice. Atchara (pickled vegetables) and fried eggs are served on the side. If I weren't so full from the previous dishes I would've had more. I love beef tapa, this one even more so.
For dessert, we had the lovely Mini Black Forest Mud Pie (pictured above). The texture is similar to flourless chocolate cake. It's very rich plus it's served with chocolate and cherry syrup with a topping of whipped cream, chocolate shavings, and a cherry. I ate about half of it only since I was practically bursting at the seams from all the yummy food that was served. I liked everything about the pie except the cherry syrup which I felt tasted like cough syrup. :pA big thank you to Yummy Magazine and Mr. Jones for such an awesome afternoon meal. :D
I totally skipped dinner that night since I was so full, yet I can't wait to go back to Mr. Jones and try even more stuff off their menu! I'm sure my kids will love both the food and the old-fashioned diner ambiance. Serving portions are great for sharing too.
