Set meals at Secret Recipe

My hubby is something of a Chinese food nazi. When faced with a choice of what restaurant to go to, you can count on him to always pick the Chinese place.

Mushroom Soup at Secret RecipeOne night, he suggested that we have dinner at Secret Recipe at Fort Bonifacio. I could not believe my ears. Was I hearing things? No, apparently, he discovered some really good meal deals there over lunch a few days before. I've never eaten at Secret Recipe prior so I was game. He ordered a set meal consisting of Mushroom Soup (pictured above right), Tom Yum Spaghetti, Crinkle Cut Fries, and Iced Lemon Tea. It cost only P149.50. Net. No service charge, no hidden costs.

Tom Yum Spaghetti at Secret RecipeThe Tom Yum Spaghetti (pictured above) is a very unique dish. The ground meat is flavored with lemon grass and chili peppers. It wasn't very saucy, it was actually like having pasta along with a viand. Pretty good though.

Crinkle Cut Fries at Secret RecipeThe Tom Yum Spaghetti was served with Crinkle Cut Fries (pictured above) on the side, which was pretty strange. I liked them though, they tasted like real potatoes instead of those salted sticks you get at fast food joints.

Pan Grilled Dory in Lobster Sauce at Secret RecipeMeanwhile I ordered a set meal consisting of Mushroom Soup, Pan Grilled Dory in Lobster Sauce (pictured above), Herb Butter Rice, Iced Lemon Tea, and Chocolate Mudcake. It cost only P299.50. The Mushroom Soup isn't anything special, in fact it tastes like Knorr's, the type usually served in cafeterias and low-end restaurants. The Pan Grilled Dory with Lobster Sauce was a big dish which also had Crinkle Cut Fries and a side salad. I didn't really like it, I felt there was too much batter and too little fish. The sauce tasted like lobster-flavored Knorr mushroom soup to boot. The Herb Butter Rice that came with it was more like plain rice. Suffice to say I wasn't too happy with my set meal.

Chocolate Mudcake at Secret RecipeLast to be served was the Chocolate Mudcake (pictured above). The good thing was, it was light and not overly sweet. The bad? It was bland, dry, and boring. Goldilocks' Heavenly Choco Slice is so much better than this.

Aside from what we ordered, these other set meals are also available:
  • Mushroom Soup, Lasagna Beef, Home-baked Bun, Chocolate Mudcake, and Iced Lemon Tea for P199.50
  • Mushroom Soup, Chicken Cordon Bleu, Herb Butter Rice, Chocolate Mudcake, and Iced Lemon Tea for P299.50
Despite my not-so-great experience, I still want to go back and try the lasagna meal. Oh, they also have this Valentines promo running from February 10-17, 2010. For P999, two people can each have soup, salad, a main dish, dessert, iced tea, and coffee. You have to call to reserve.
