Mosquitoes are more prevalent during the wet season since mosquito eggs cannot hatch without water. As we all know, mosquitoes carry deadly diseases like Dengue and Malaria. In order to illustrate the importance of keeping the home mosquito-free, the Downy Antibac presentation was held in an actual house. Good Housekeeping Editor-in-Chief Jing Lejano shared tips and pointers on how to keep mosquitoes away. We toured each part of the house and areas where mosquitoes could breed were pointed out. We were also taught how to wrap and pack food properly to avoid infestation.
Representatives from the Philippine Association of Entomologists (PAE), who are certified mosquito experts, conducted a live on-site demonstration of Downy Antibac's mosquito-repellent effect. A blogger volunteer was asked to alternately wear a Downy-treated and an untreated sleeve on her arm and plunge it into a screen-covered box full of mosquitoes. True enough, more mosquitoes landed on the untreated sleeve compared to the Downy-treated one. Downy Antibac is not intended to replace mosquito repellents, keeping mosquitoes away is just an added benefit to its fabric softening and germicidal properties. Mosquitoes are primarily olfactory creatures, they are attracted by smells -- and that includes the malodor on your clothes caused by microorganisms present in fresh sweat.
The good news is, Downy Antibac's Suggested Retail Price (SRP) is the same as all the other variants (except Downy Sunrise Fresh, which is the least expensive). At least officially, that is how P&G is pricing it -- the actual shelf price would depend from outlet to outlet as some would put a bit of a premium on Downy Antibac for all the additional benefits it has.
